Hi
Check out this article:
http://www.smh.com.au/national/fertility-law-change-puts-spotlight-on-donors-20090224-8guk.html
I mention this article because we are in the process of trying for a baby atm. My partner and I planned on using the same donor for both of our children, as i feel that i would really like our children to have a biological link. If they pass this law, then our chances of using the same donor are pretty much minimal unless we try to get pregnant at the same time, which is not possible for us as we both work and we have a mortgage, plus we want to wait a couple of years between children by choice. This law if passed could be implemented as early as Jan 2010. I know that fertility specialists and trying to fight so that this law doesnt get passed and i have my fingers crossed that they succeed.
It really bothers me that the commonwealth passed a law that recognises same sex couples pretty much to benefit them having to pay out less money through Centrelink payments. The tax and medicare i believe was included so they could try to show that they were giving us something in return. We dont have the same rights as heterosexual defacto couples. And this new law if passed is just more proof of that. Why should it be that only 5 woman can access sperm from the 1 donor and not 5 families? That to me is discrimination to same sex couples in it self.
