View Full Version : What to wear as a guest to winter wedding
Hi,
what are people generally wearing these days to weddings, it will be cold.
should I buy a dress or should I just wear a suit out of my closet from my corporate days
i have no idea, and also will be meeting my b/f's relatives so want to make a good impression!
Hi
I also have a winter wedding to go to.
I was just contemplating a suit too. But maybe a skirt suit with a nice pair of heels and a long coat (if it's really really cold) instead of the usual pants suit.
I'm not one for dresses at the best of times though. I feel very awkward in them.

a nice long skirt and pretty top with a jacket is a nice alternative to a suit. just take into account where the wedding will be held and if outdoors don't wear heels as it can get a bit wet and muddy at the moment.

I'd get a nice long skirt or nice pants and tailored jacket.
Last winter wedding i went to I wore a knee-length dress with short sleeves (made of a knit sort of fabric) and a light, black coat that ties up in the middle, so it didn't completely cover the dress. The ceremony was at a church, and it was a little chilli, but the reception had a wood-fire and was centrally heated, so was quite warm. Most ladies wore dresses, or nice skirts and tops with a wrap.
We're going to a wedding this August, and would like to wear the same dress but have to consider breastfeeding so have a wrap dress, again with short sleeves, in a slinky sort of stretch fabric, with a wrap to go.
I always like dressing up for weddings, and keep in mind that it will be warm at the reception. If you like to wear dresses, I would go for it. Corporate wear looks a little serious for a wedding IMO.

Definately a DRESS (to the knee or past the knee) with a nice cardigan or long jacket!!!
I also think a bit of fake tan dosent go astray and that way you dont have to wear stockings...
If its not that cold wear strappy shoes or of its cold there are some beautiful closed in stilettos !!!
When i lived in London I always wore a dress with a cardigan and long coat - I would just take off the cardigan or coat if it got hot or leave them both on when it was BRRRRR.
ALso i nice matching clutch always dresses up an outfit !!! and dangling earrings (DIVA is the best).
Please dont wear a suit - you are going to a celebration not an office !!!!!!
Just my opinion though !
Ok thanks for the advice I sure need it
I have a really nice aqua dress from powerhouse with diamonte's on the front, but it is quite low cut, you have to wear one of those plunge type bra's. Would that be ok? Or too revealing perhaps.
I have to wear high heels as I am so damn short lol!! My bf is 9 inches taller. The wedding is at a park then a restaurant lunch.
I am going to the outlet stores next week so will see if I can find anything there.
I will leave the dusty suits in the cupboards!!!
whatever you wear make sure you are comfortable and warm. a suit is fine and you can spice it up with a colourful pashmina. I've been to more weddings than I can remember, as a wedding videographer. people wear all sorts of things to weddings and you can always tell if they aren't comfortable because they're the ones who look thunderous/wiggly/trying to put there bobs back in after attempting to catch the flowers. lol.
We're going to a wedding this August
Me too and we are in Sydney also.
I wonder if it's the same one as you are similiar in age to the bride too.
