How long did it take for your childs passport to be made? For single parents only.

Then, I dont understand why mine is taking that long, its been more than 3 weeks.

What paperwork did you provide with it?

Did you fill out the seperate form that stated you did not need the fathers permission?

I wouldn't worry - i'm friendly with my postoffice and I think that's why it went through so quickly. Mine was quick in terms of even one that isn't difficult!

I went to the passport office, i had to fill out B8 or something forms, i dont exactly remember which forms.
They keep tellling me its with senior officers.
I will be calling again tomorrow to check.
Im so frustrated.

Is it urgent.

I wouldn't keep calling them until it had been 6 weeks.

They might get annoyed and reject it.

You don't want them getting suspicious even if there is nothing to be suspicous about.

Best to be patient and sit back and wait - even thought that's hard.

Most normal passports take at least a month to come back anyway :)

i'd wait before calling again.
Dependign ont he circumstances they may be trying to contact your childs other parent to see if what you have written is truthful an dif he/she consents to your taking the child out of country...
They say no to even book a childs tickets until you get the passport in cases where only one parent consents as it may be rejected.

Ok, yes i think i shouldnt be calling them every other day. I wont call them now.
I know it'll be really hard but yeah thats what im going to do.
Thanks.

My DD's took 3 months ... sigh

I have no idea where the ExDH is and had to show that I had searched for him ect with the application ... so that probably held it up.

Yeah i think ive done something wrong with the application thats why its taking so much time.
3 months is a longgg time! I also have put that i didnt bother with the father.
Its going to be testing my patience!

Ummm, is the father on the birth certificate?

If you have a BC with no father details and you sign the extra form then there shouldn't be a problem.

If you submitted a passport application with a BC with the fathers name on it - then yes, it will take longer and you will probably end up with issues as in this case the father is meant to sign it.

The father isnt on the BC. He is not in this country, i dont know his whereabouts in his home country. Thats what i have written down.
Will they search him if they know where he's working? And ask his consent? Because he's not in australia?

Usually you leave the father bit blank in that case and there is a seperate form where you just put all 'no's'.

I wouldn't worry in that case. How can they try to find him if there is no record of him on the passport application or birth certificate? They can't is the simple answer.

Hang tight - i'm sure it will all come back in a couple of weeks.

Just wondering if it is at all possible for me to get passports for my son and daughter.

Unfortunately their father is on the birth certificate (yes unfortunately we were married) and now subsequently divorced.

I have no contact with him whatsoever he has my parents contact details etc and knows if he wants to he can contact me through them.

But despite the fact that he was a druggie, crim and a wife basher the family law court originally allowed him supervised visits at his mothers (of all places).

Anyhow he kept not showing and i kept having to drive three hours every second weekend for his visitation (so he was breached).

And in the end he was told unless he came to my home town for centrecare visitations and undertook a parenting course he was not allowed unsupervised visitations.

Fast forward five years, no word from him. He has of course moved on (within a week of me leaving he found someone just like him) and not long after they had a kid together (nothing new for him he has left a trail of kids around aussie).

One day id like to take the kids to new zealand (not in the immediate future) as i still havent taken them to qld. But i am thinking i might apply for a passport for all of us.

Child support rang me about a fortnight ago asking me if i knew where he was all i could give him was his previous address and his mothers.

I do not wish to have to obtain his permission as he will no doubt say no (and no i am not from new zealand nor do i have family friends there just think it would be nice for a holiday).

As for divorce court he never showed for that as well and it was granted (thank god).

And where do i get the passport forms from?

Passport forms from the post office - they can do photos too - otherwise chemist for the photos.

Because the father is on the birth certificate you'll need to prove that you are not in touch with him.

As such, they will probably try to get in touch with him - through the last address you have.

When he doesn't respond - then I would say it will be like the birth certificate - it should be granted.

Unfortunately it could be a bit harder for you and I would seek legal advice.

Ashleerose ... this sounds sort of like my situation.

DD's sperm donor (as he doesn't have the right to call himself a father) and I were married, we separated when she was 3 months old. No contact with DD, a few letters begging me to come back, he'd changed blah, blah, but never once inquired about DD.

Anyway, when I had to over overseas for work I wanted to take DD as well, I applied for the passport, I included a Stat Dec stating we had no contact with him what so ever, had no idea where he was ... explained I searched through electoral roles and white pages online, had no idea where he was.

It took 3 months and a couple of phone calls, but they issued the passport.

It is doable ... good luck.

Nic71, can i ask if this is your DD who is 11? Do you mind me asking if her sperm donor has contact with her now?

Yep ... she's 11 now and no, he's not had one word of contact with her, not a birthday card, no gifts, child support ... pfft, what's that.

To be honest, we're very happy with it that way, as she has a wonderful man in her life (I met him when she was 5) and she calls him Dad, she's taken on his surname as well. He's supported her financially and emotionally from day one and I consider that to be a dad, not the donation of genes. :D

Nic71, that is so great ... do you mind me asking what you tell your DD about the sperm donor? I'd be really interested to hear ...
