I have no idea if this is in the right section.

But my neighbours son has down syndrome he is 18years old and when I first moved in (6months ago) she said he had the mentality of a 7 years old and talk and treat him like I would any other 18years old. He doesn't listen to him, so I should take it upon myself to talk to him if he is doing something I dont like.

SO here are my issues that I would like more education for so I know how to handle the situations better,

1) he yells, swears, and bags sticks at my front door step during the day and night up to 10pm at night

2) He sits in there car, starts it, leaves it running and walks away and also plays with the engine??

3)He puts things in our bin like his clothes. His mother has asked us to remove them and put them on her front door step. The other day it was the first thing in the bin.... SO it was pretty grose???

Other petty things.

He was just yelling out swear words in the car so I went out there and spoke to him in a calm voice and asked him is everything ok? Is there a reason why he needs to be yelling right now? He jsut sat quietly. I let him know if he needs anything to just knock and ask...

I'm so over it.

please help me, be more understanding?

It sounds to me like you're being very understanding already! Your approach of talking calmly is a really good one I think. I feel for his parents, but I think they also need to get some help with his behaviours. Does he have a case manager or anything? I'm sure they could help his parents to manage him a bit better which in turn may help him feel calmer too.

His Dad passed away a bit more than a year ago i think, so I know the mother is doing it hard. But she just ignores the behaviour. I didnt' know D/S could be like this. I have worked with D/S people before and found them great to work with and I actually found them harder workers and more willing than the other workers.
