Positive home test, now what?

HI there,

My partner and I (I'm the guy in the partnership) have a positive result in our home pregnancy test, we are excited!

Not sure what to do now in terms, as our doc is away for the next 3 weeks.

We would prefer to see our regular doctor about what to do next, but we were not sure if waiting another 3 weeks was any issue.

Any advice?

Congratulations!

The best thing to do is to wait until your doctor arrives. If you like you can go to another GP just to get a confirmation through a blood pregnancy test.

Most doctors will not want to see a pregnant woman (unless there are complications) before 8 weeks gestation anyway and most obstetricians ask women to wait until 10-12 weeks gestation unless there is previous medical history that warrants an earlier visit.

In your case things sound pretty normal. So you can wait.

You may like to start thinking about whether you would both like her to deliver in a private or public hospital and whether you would like to be under the care of midwives or an obstetrician & gynaecologist.

This decision often depends upon what you feel most comfortable with—unless again, there is a reason (health concerns) you’d like/need to be very closely monitored throughout the pregnancy.

In the meantime, ensure your partner is as healthy as possible to contribute to an excellent developmental environment for your baby.
