View Full Version : Chocolate - which is best?

Chocolate is one of those feel good foods and many of us have an amazing love affair with it... on again - off again (along with the associated weight gain if we indulge too much!).
Which chocolate do you love the most?
Now, I realise this will be a hard one to answer definitively, but I just want you to go with which one you would prefer to eat if you could only choose one!
And if you've got any great recipes the choc-a-holics amongst us will love, add them into the Recipe Hub (http://www.bubhub.com.au/recipes/index.php) so we can all enjoy!!

I said milk chocolate but it really depends. I also like white, but prefer not to eat it on its own in plain blocks... I love white kit kats!
Hate dark chocolate. The cocoa taste is too intense for me, and it tastes burnt. I don't like it.
to choose??? to choose ?? oh dear .. ummm I change from week to week (depending on the stress levels in my life!!!) ... I love dark chocolate (lindt is my favourite dark) - but I also love nestle dairy milk - I find it smoother than cadbury ... and I LOOOOVE the crunch bars (with ricebubbles in :D)

Lindt dark chocolate - especially the flavoured varieties (the mint is to die for, as is the roast almond).

Of course, I may be a little biased, as that's all I've been able to eat since my DS was born (cow's milk protein intolerance).

I love Black & Green's Organic Dark Chocolate, yummy :cloud9:
Totally agree, I tried Black and Green's chocolate once (tho it was only 60% dark I think), i was in Priceline (of all places to sell chocolate) and they had it on clearance.. the BEST chocolate i've ever had.. and previously I was a TOTAL Cadbury's girl :)

Hi, I'm lactose intolerant and have been searching for a dairy free chocolate.. are you saying that Lints dark is lactose free??? Ooh, i hope so!:)
Sure is :D Completely dairy free. The flavoured darks have some soy in it (which can be problematic for those with protein intolerances - soy and dairy proteins and very similar and some people cross-react - thankfully not my DS!), but the 70% and 85% dark are dairy and soy free. YAY!

Damn you!! Now I REALLY want some!
yum yum yum yum yum yum!
I love Haigh's and Lindt dark chocolate in small decadent amounts. When I need a chocolate binge I probably lean more towards milk.
I'm going to go out on a limb here though and say that white chocolate doesn't even count as chocolate! All you can taste is milk and sugar, so just call it that
(It wasn't even that much of a limb to go out on, I've just Googled it and it turns out the US Food and Drug Administration agrees with me and doesn't consider white chocolate to be chocolate at all!)

I love the lindt 70% for any chocolate I'm making something into..like mouse or a chocolate oblivion tart or fondant etc.
Darker the better.. well not 80 percent that's too dark:p
I love the valhrona (S?) but I can't find it regularly but g-damn it's good! They also make the best cocoa in the universe - but I can't find it anymore.=(
Also callebaut is my favourite white chocolate and a delish eating chocolate.
It's amazing how different the cocoa beans from different countries taste too, like lindt is more vanillery where as callebaut is more of a nutty flavour.
Yes I am chocoholic - i admit it.

Milk choclate for me, unless i'm on a 'health kick' in which case it would be dark. Cadbury's is my favorite by far! Lindt tastes too salty for my liking

White chocolate is ok but it doesn't taste like chocolate.

Black and greens is by cadbury though.
So is it just imported and made in the UK so has the ethical/non slave labour fair trade dealio?
or is it made in australia or is the australian black and greens a subsidiary of cadburies aus?
cocolo (http://cocolo.com.au/) is pretty yummy.

I like to buy dark and white melts (for cooking) and eat them together. I will literally put one white button back-to-back with one dark button.
PS: I'm not fond of top deck block chocolate. It is just not the same.
Another way I like to eat chocolate which is really indulgent, is to gently melt (sit on top of a bowl of hot water) some dark chocolate and stir through white marshmellows. The residual heat in the chocolate is enough to melt the marshmellows.
I like milky bar. Cadbury dream is not nice at all. I hate dark chocolate and really only like cadbury dairy milk if I eat milk chocolate. I don't like the taste of the fancy expensive stuff. Don't really buy milk chocolate.

Not sure, I get all my choc sent over from my cousins in the UK anyway, will check on the Aussie Black and Green though and post back (English chocolate is WAY nicer than Aussie - creamier!)
Just checked ethical.org.au, and Cadbury Aus's black and green is fine which means it must be imported or uses slave free cocoa.
ETA: yes i love cocola too. Fair trade choc is so delicious!
HERE (http://www.betterworldshopper.com/r-chocolate.html) is the link to the chocolate ratings from betterworldshopper (based on environment as well as human rights issues). Pick the blue chocolate (green and blacks is there)

I do this! I had to come up with a pregnancy safe mousse for a friend once so I did that with a teensy bit of whipped cream mixed through - it sets just like mousse! And it makes the most freaking delicious icing for cakes and cupcakes in the universe imo.

Depends on why I want the chocolate!
Dark Chocolate for choc mud cakes, more intense flavour, richer...etc
Milk chocolate for eating by itself or with chips, also for mousse, ummm and other things I want a creamy subtle choc flavour for.
White chocolate for choc dipped strawberries..

Well i've never met a chocolate I didnt' like, but I will have to say milk chocolate.. But not any old milk chocolate.. For everyday use, Cadbury's is fine, but for indulgent situations it has to be Lindt or one of the many delicious organic ones.. They are divine, just expensive..
Not a fan of it - except I love 'Hello Pandas'. Evil little things they are.

Just a quick note- Being an extreme chocoholic, I feel their should have been a fifth option of "all of the above"! I will eat pretty much any chocolate, except fruit and nut, turkish delight and rum and raisen. While dark is healthier for you, any choc is good for stress relief and release of happy hormone in my opinion lol. Choc rocks!

I didn't want to reply because it depends so much on the brand. Not all chocolates are created equal!

Failing that, I'll settle for lindt anything.

I was born with chocolate in my veins!!!
I'll take it in any colour, milk, then white, then dark!!!!
I love cadburys and lint, most bars and blocks except the ones with fruit in them, then it starts to get a little bit healthy for me!!!!!!!
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:smiliedance:
Cadbury's Dairy Milk for me - I'm off to the UK for a short visit at the beginning of May, might take an extra suitcase so I can fill it when I am there and bring it back hehe

Cadbury is divine! But my all time favourite are those little Lindt balls (don't know what they're call), I like the mixed ones where you get white, dark, milk and nutty. Wish I had some now!

I'm not a bug chocolate fan but I love dark and white. Not much of a fan of boring normal dairy  but in saying that a block of either will sit in my cupboard for months on end.
Milk Chocolate. I love it so muchhhhh !!!

The limited edition Lindt balls (green box) that were white chocolate centre coated with milk chocolate, AWESOME! I found them come back out at easter time (we first tried them at Christmas) and I bought every box I could find :o
I really think the poll needs an extra option... I couldn't live without any one of them! I like to break them into tiny bits and eat them together with a hot coffee so all 3 flavours melt in the mouth together.

I love the sound of this and I am determined to try it :)
I voted milk chocolate, but my favourite is actually old gold peppermint chocolate, it's dark chocolate, but with peppermint
I probably wouldn't be able to eat much dark chocolate on it's own, but wouldn't complain if someone gave me some
I can't beleive there are 8 people who dont like it! Are they insane??:D:p
By the way Cadburys Milk chocolate is the best, but only the european stuff, it tastes different in Australia.

Chocolate is a must have to survive in motherhood, for me anyway:p. In my cupboard I have chocolate from woolies, aldi, ikea and chocolate from that candy shop chocolate in the middle of mall:D:o. I just finished full package of maltesers:o
I'm vegan so can't eat milk or white choc unless it is soy. Love it though. heaps. :yelclap:
OH I wish I didn't look at this... now I need chocolate.
As soon as DP :valentine: gets home I am sending him on an errand for me
