Hi Ladies,

Im looking at buying the above books to help me with my first labour....

Have any of you read these books and did you find them helpful??

Just wanted some opinions before I order them online..... I probably should order in the next day or two so I give myself enough time to read and prepare myself!

I bought Birth skills online, tried to start reading it, but reading is just not my thing atm lol

If you want to buy a barely touched copy, let me know :)

I read birth skills and will be re-reading it this time round as well. It gives lots of different options to try which I liked as not everything suits everyone, and not everything works when the time comes, I liked the variety!

Good luck :flowerz:

I read Birth Skills before my labour. Helped to put some things into perspective and give me a few different options to try, but honestly, unless you practice them while pregnant (as much as you can) you won't necessarily be with it enough in labour to think of something else to try and will just do what you can to get through each contraction. I do know now that I never mastered the technique of distracting myself from the pain. Perhaps I needed more time to practice, I dunno. I do think it's a good book, if used properly. Good luck :)

I am reading Birth Skills and so is DH.

I figure if I cant remember then he should atleast. lol

So far I think that it is a great book and would recommend it to anyone. Only time will tell if it will help me through the labour process but I figure that even if it gets me through a few hrs or gives me something else to think about for a bit then it was worth the money.

I thought that alot of what is said makes so much sense but I do agree that you do need to pratice some of it.

I bought the birth skills one and it was great. After my waters broke I grabbed it again for a quick read .

I took out Hypnobirthing from our local library in December and read it in about 4 nights flat - I thought it was just fantastic. I booked into a local course in February and DS2 was born on 23/4 - I was really glad to have the techniques under my belt for the labour because it was pretty crazy!!!

I read 'Birth Skills' when preparing for the birth of my DS2 along with a few other books !

I like this one as it was an easy mainstream type of book which meant I could get DP to read it & understand what I needed ...

I have to say it worked wonders for me because I used so much of the ideas which along with bits & pieces from other books & people helped me get through a fairly decent labour ( 19hrs not including pre-labour ) without the need to use drugs or even get to the hospital before it was time for DS2 to appear lol !

Whilst labour is always just that ... Its hard work, DS2's birth was wonderful, amazing & I would do it again in a heartbeat !!!!!

Something I never EVER expected to say after DS1's birth

I am currently reading Hypnobirthing the Mongan Method. It is fantastic. So is the cd that comes with it. I put the cd on while in the bath and fell asleep. I thought it went for ages but when I checked it out it only goes for 22 minutes so it must have help me relax. I would also recommend the Rainbow relaxation cd which the book mentions. I also have that and it is awesome.

I have that book and CD too and the same thing happened to me every time I tried to listen to the CD :D To be honest I wasn't that convinced by the method but I guess that is the point...you need to believe in it for it to work.

I bought and read Birth Skills and thought it was excellent. I used several of the techniques and had a great active birth with DS. After having an epidural with DD's birth I wanted to experience a natural birth....DS's birth was amazing!:cloud9:
