Screaming Baby during and after feeds

Hi,

Poppy has been on formula since 4 weeks old due to breast feeding problems and ever since has been a little spewy but not bad. The last couple of weeks she has been in so much pain and spewing a hell of alot more during feeds and after for about an hour!!

I originally had her on S26 Gold but changed formula recently to Karicare. This hasn't changed anything and it seems to be getting worse. Today she has not been drinking all of her bottle as now I think the pain is so bad.

Have tried heat packs and massage but nothing works!

Any ideas???

How's the outflow at the aft end? Gas and other.

Do you think it could be lactose intolerance?

AFT???? As for the wind seems to be in pain when she pops off! I thought about her being lactose intolerant what are the symptoms for this??

I think you should refer her to a Dr. but it will probably be lactose intolerance or could be severe reflux. You could try infant gaviscon - but I would get some advice from a doctor.

My son was lactose intolerant due to rota virus (not that I'm saying that's what your bub has)but the intolerance made him scream and have diahrrea (wrong spelling I know). He also spewed heaps. He wouldn't take his bottle for a while as he associated pain with food. I tried everything from soy to goats formula then back to my normal Karicare. I only found out he was sick when I went to the doc.

Karicare make a great lactose free formula but I think you can only buy it at a chemist.

Maybe just go to your Dr or early childhood nurse to be sure.

Not right at the start. Most of time it's after a feed but the past week some of the feeds she pushes the bottle away and starts - then when I burp her she just vomits it all back up again! and continues to scream.

Amy, sounds just like lactose intolerance to me. Both my girls, as you know have it. Sound exactly like Kailah was before starting the de-lact. Ask the doc when you go if he thinks it's worth a try to change it to that.

Thanks Kris will do. Do they grow out of it or is there a big chance it will remain with them their whole life???

What tests can be done to diagnose it??

Not much in the ways of test, but Emily grew out of hers nearly a year ago now. So she was a bit over 3. I am hoping Kailah grows out of it too. I'm sure she will. The paed told me that most kids do grow out of it before they go to school.

DS is lactose intolerant and had reflux. Sounds like what your bub has too. There is a test for lactose intolerance. They take a stool sample and test that. As soon as I switched to lactose free formula my boy was a different baby. You could even just try switching to this formula and see if it makes a difference. It certainly won't do any harm. Karicare have a lactose free formula. Best of luck.

DS had the same problem although i don't think he was in pain but was always spewing up i changed to goats milk formula and it stopped the spewing but i am unsure about the pain sorry
