I am currently exclusively BF my 8 week old son, but need to go back to work full-time for two weeks next month. I currently express my breasts empty just after his last night feed (as i cannot sleep with even partialy full breasts.) I'm getting between 180ml & 200ml between both
I think have enough for about 2 days worth of feeds but i am wondering how much he will need per feed.
He feeds every 2hrs some days sleeping 4-5 hrs at night, but other days will go every 3hrs with no long sleep at night.
:(
He has been bottle fed on occasion but he varies in how much he will take. Sometimes 150ml sometime only 40 ml and it also depends if i try to give him a bottle or if someone else does it. So you can understand why I'm a little confused.
Any help with approximate amounts per feed would be fanastic.

Its hard to know. But Ella was having about 80mls at that age. I'd say if you have about 100mls per feed there you should be right, but maybe check with a midwife.

Hi,

Your baby takes different ammounts each time you offer EBM because that is what they do when they breastfeed.

They dont take the exact ammount each time they feed, they take what they need.

The formula to work out the quota is weight in gms x 180ml then divide by 6 or 8 depending on the spacing of the feed ie 3 or 4 hrly. Someone had a good idea on another thread to divide the feeds in half again so you dont loose any if they dont want to take it.
