Hi guys!
Just have to whinge! We conceived our daughter on our 2nd IVF cycle (we're so lucky!) and are thinking of trying for #2 in December... If one more person says to me "You might find you'll fall pregnant naturally now you've had a baby..." I think I will hit them!!! I know this does happen occaisonally, but for the majority of people who have used some form of assisted conception, this is so not the case... The reason we had to go down the IVF path, was because my husband has anti-sperm antibodies - so now I've had a baby are they just supposed to disappear??!!! I get so sick of having to explain...
Phew!! Thanks - just had to get that off my chest!
Cheers!
You are not alone !
I know exactly what you mean. My husband and I have a 12 week old little boy, who is an IVF baby. WE did IVF because my husband has had testicular cancer twice (and as he says, you can really only have it there on two occasions). Thus, it would be not only difficult ... but IMPOSSIBLE for us to becomse pregnant naturally. IVF was a blessing for us ... that goodness for science, I say !
Needless to say, we have been told by some people (who do not know our specific situlation well) that we will probably get a little surprise package now that my body has been pregnant, and will remember what to do. Part of the illusion that when people do IVF, it must be the "woman's problem".
Anyway, just thought I would let you know that you are not alone, and that (in my opinion) most people are stupid about most things, but even this does not stop them making comments about things they have NO idea about !!
We need to think of a really "smart and politely insulting" response for these comments ! Any ideas ??

Well its nice to know there are others that feel the same as myself. My first son (IVF BABY) is now 2, as soon as i started talking about wanting another I also had a percentage of "Thick" people telling me it could happen naturally. I say "thick" as some of these people are ones who I had explained our whole problem to even saying that our doctor had told us we would only have about 2% chance of concieving naturally (MY husband has low motility and normality problems with his sperm). Any way I have since gone through another full cycle of IVF and was extremely lucky, I am now prenant with 1 baby - 13weeks. Thank God for those brilliant scientists. Good luck girls. Claire :) :)

l don't think anyone really understands IVF unless they have been through it themselves. l once sat down with my closest friends and together we watched the DVD which was produced by MIVF. It shows the procedures and different cycles of IVF. They all thanked me for sharing it with them and it allowed them to ask questions. Fortunately l was feeling very positive at the time and it has helped me that they understand what l am going through. Although l still don't think they realise the emotional side we all go through and the feeling of wanting something and not having any control.
Sometimes if l don't feel like all the questions and the 'why don't you relax etc...' and 'you should go on a holiday' l just reply with 'we have decided to take a break from everything!' That generally shuts people up.
