I'm looking for pilchers that do up by velcro rather than pull on ones, and I've only found one at my local BigW and it was the last one in stock and they're not ordering more.
So.... I was looking online and came across the Baby Beehind ones... are these the same sort of thing? Are they just as discreet as a standard plastic pilcher (with the cloth outer and mesh inner)? Any tips please?
(DH hates plastic lined pilchers cause he finds it too hard to tell if the nappy needs changing, so any tips there would be welcomed as well).

Hi Hun,
Personally I would stay away from PVC pilchers google it and you'll see why. I know the BBH ones are a bit $ more but they are good. They are PUL so they breathe whereas PVC wont and PUL is safe for bubs. The MCN's waterproofing layer is PUL also. They dont seep through even though they feel like a material and just air them out after being used and they are fine.
There are a few other brands as well but I use the BBH ones, best to get two in the size you want so you can chuck one in the wash and you have a spare. I also love the wool its easy and amazingly doesnt leak once lanolised!!!
You need PUL covers. Have a look through the directory for nappy sites and you might find some bargains with velcro too.

I would either go with Bummi's ( PUL ) as they are just all round great covers or the Tots Bots PUL because they have gussets which hold in any pooplosion ! Both are velcro !

I'd go Bummis... The large size is huge and would be ideal for flats.
You don't want any that come from woolies or kmart, they don't breathe. Plus, though they might be cheap, they really don't last long. A $15 cover made from PUL, if cared for properly, will last ages. :)
I have quite a few mcn plus some ebay fitteds, but often I find myself just folding up a terry flat and popping it inside a bbh small cover.
I fold in quarters (square) then in 3rds and that fits perfectly in a small bbh cover. I also have a 'real nappies' cover which i purchased from a popular auction site;) they are quite similar to bbh, but not quite as good, and only come in white. They do have a little pocket in the top though that stops the moisture leaking out the front though which is a bit nifty.
bbh is about $65 for 6 plus postage, real nappies are about $33 for 4 with free postage, but you can get a trial pack for quite cheap, I dont like the prefold that comes with it though.
Oh DS is now 8kg and still fits the small bbh covers with terrys folded like that, i think ill be able to skip med and just buy lrg when the time comes, andill get away with sml for a while.
I like both, and Either way they are both a million times better than the 50cent pull on pilchers!

When I used terry flats with my oldest 2 DD's I used to buy velcro nappy covers from Target. They used to come in a few cute designs - cotton outer and a gusset inside the leg helped hold things in. Also woolies used to stock a similiar type of velcro nappy cover. They worked well for us, at the time I had no idea about the world of MCN and pul etc.

Thanks for all the replies... only now I'm even more confused! LOL
I only grabbed the PVC one cause it's all I could find on the day... had no odea that PVC and PUL were anything different. All I'm after is something I can pop over a terry cloth nappy when I'm away from home so that if he wets it's not going to mean a change of clothes. When we're at home I don't need them because I change him the instant he wets anyway, so moisture being kept in isn't a problem... he's very intolerant of a wet nappy and will start to protest within seconds of weeing. Gussets to stop the powerpoos leaking would be a bonus too.
So... based on this... would I still get the BBH/Bummies/Tots Bots PUL covers? I don't want anything that has built in absorbency because when you add terry flats to a young baby you already end up with a bum that doesn't fit in a lot of modern baby clothes, so I don't want to add extra bulk if I can help it.
Also, which are likely to be cheaper?
Cheers,
Nonny

I tried Target, Woolies, Coles, BigW, KMart, Myer, DJ's, and our local baby shop.... no one had them. All I could find was Mio (or Mia or something?) nappy covers but they came in a kit with AIO's.

what size covers are you after? I can send you some medium BBH pul to try if it would fit?

Really??? That would be awesome! Although even a paper cutout to the right size would help, cause I could wrap it around him while he's in a clothie and see if it would be big enough.
Hmm.... he's almost 5kg... so not newborn size, but perhaps next size up? I assume the sizing would be based on using the smaller inserts rather than a terrycloth one?
