View Full Version : Bread recipe, with vegies
DD loves for lunch a plain piece of bread (whole grain). Make it into a sandwich and it gets rejected. I have a bread maker and just wondering if anyone knows a recipe for a loaf bread that includes some vegetables?

Sorry no recipes here either.
I have been thinking of buying a breadmaker (love the smell of it cooking) but can you tell me as far as $$$ go how does it compare to buying bread - is it actually worth it.
I am on a very strict budget so always on the lookout to save money.
Good luck with the recipe hunting.
I found a pumpkin bread recipe, made the bread last night will try it out on DD for lunch today but DH and I both loved the bread so hopefully DD will too, but know children coz we love it, it will mean she hates it.
In terms of costs I really don't think making bread in bread maker is cheaper than buying bread, particularly if you are buying homebrand bread. We still buy loaves of bread and make bread for a weekend treat or if we are having guests. It really does make the yummiest bread.

Not a bread recipe, but thought I might share anyways.
Savoury Cheese Ring
Scone Mixture:
2 cups SR flour, sifted
2 Tbsp Margarine
1/2 cup grated Cheese
1 Egg, beaten
1 cup milk, approximately
Filling
250g Luncheon, Beef
2 or 3 Gherkins
2 tspn Butter, melted
2 tspn chopped Parsley
1 small onion
1/4 cup Grated Cheese
4 Tbsp Tomato Sauce
Dice beef, gherkin, onion and parsley finely. Combine all filling ingredients and mix well.
Rub margarine through fingertips, add cheese, egg and milk to make a moist scone dough (dont add the entire cup of milk all at once!!).
Turn onto a floured board, knead lightly. Roll into a rectangle approximately 30x20cm.
Spread with filling, form into a roll and then into a ring. Place on greased tray.
Make cuts 2/3 way through at 2.5cm intervals. Turn each section on its side. Brush well wth egg and milk, bake in moderate over (180) for 30-35minutes.
I've made it with salami, capsicum, sundried tomatoes.
Oh and the filling can be whatever you want, to an extent, has to 'work' together if you get what I mean.
Now in regards to making your own bread, how bout adding sliced olives, sundried tomatoes and some herbs..
