We have been doing controlled crying for a couple of weeks, and its worked great at bed time and during the day. (He's rarely cried for more than 5-10 mins) I'm just wondering about during the night when he wakes.

I have always just got straight up and fed him (usually every 3-4 hours) and he happily goes back to sleep, but I don't really think he needs a feed all the time, just comforting. But if I don't offer the feed he cracks it!

Should I wait for longer before I go in, or just stick out the crying until he realises night feeds are goin to be less frequent?

Six months of 3-4 hourly feeds and I'm starting to feel pretty tired. I'd love him to sleep through the night.

Hi,

I gave my son water when he woke up at night then he soon realised that he wont get milk and decided not to wake thru the night. You just have to be strong and I found it really hard because you are 1/2 asleep and all you want to do it feed them so they go straigt back to sleep. If you don't want to feed water to him just do the controled crying when he wakes for a feed. I kept going in and out but took longer in between each time. They soon realise that they wont be getting milk and he will put himself asleep by himself. It will take a few nights but be strong!!!!

Good luck and let us know how you went I'd love to hear from you.

Hi,

when my DD woke up at night my DH took care of her and gave her some water. He didn't pick her up just gave some water and patted her. Then she realised that she had to go back to sleep, and mommy wouldn't come at night to feed her, or rock her.

Now, she only wakes up after 5 am for milk( she really becomes hungry. I can hear her tummy growls ), then she goes right back to sleep until 7am.

cheers
