View Full Version : Pilling?
I just bought a few Little Bottoms nappies off ebay. They're bamboo and are working great so far but they pilled quite badly after the first wash. I need to buy more nappies but not sure..... will the pilling affect the life or absorbency of the nappy?
actually, I'm not sure pilling's the right word. It's more like the material gotten all roughed up, but it's not in little balls that you can pull off.

i remember seeing these and noted that it doesnt have laundry tabs. are you finding your nappys stuck to each other with the velcro? when they are going around in the wash they are probably sticking to each other and it could be causing the material to pill
or it could be cheap bamboo fleece...you do get what you pay for
I don't think it's the velcro. I always do up the tabs before I put them in the wash, and the nappies had the same look all over, not just in a few spots where the velcro might have caught.
I didn't know there are different types of bamboo fleece! (so confusing!). I don't mind the appearance, as long as the nappy still works and won't be useless in a few months. If it is cheap bamboo fleece, does anyone know if this is durable???

pilling is when a material fluffs up and balls on the outside...like fleece trackpants/jumpers after they have gone through the wash

Oh righteo. You can get combs to take them off, do they work on cloth nappies? lol

I think I know what you mean, where it's not exactly pilling. It's like it's kinda clumped and each strand which used to be fluffy is sorta now stuck to the other ones so it doesn't have that nice sorty fluffy feel anymore. A lot of my bamboo fleece does that after washing! (and i'm talking cute tooshies, wild child nights - good brands not dodgy ones). It doesn't affect the nappy working however, so don't worry!
Though i hear a spin thru the dryer helps with that.
I think it's like how your minky nappies after a few washes don't feel the same as they did when you first bought them (though it's a bit better with minky, they still feel soft)
Mine did that when I bought a frontloader!
I did a strip wash and a tumble dry and they fluffed up again. But I think its something about the wash action of the frontloader that matts the nap of the bamboo fleece.
Thanks sparrowgal and nex - yep, I have a frontloader. don't have a dryer unfortunately but glad to know it's only the appearance that suffers. :yelclap:

They're 70% bamboo, 30% organic cotton. Is that good?

Wow nex never knew it was coz I had a frontloader! Oh well, I don't have a dryer so I'll never have fluffy nappies I guess!

i thought frontloaders were gentler??

That's what I thought but my clothes come out crunchier now - I think it's from the spin dry - they spin much faster than a top loader.

oh,...um if you have a new front loader you should be able to turn down the spin cycles
