hi there, just a quick question...
ds is now 4 months and someone made a comment today that he should be rolling well and truely by now... is this right?
he can get up onto his side easily (starting on his back) and loves doing it he just cant get past the arm under him to go all the way....

should i be worried?

i thought because he has been able to get onto his side for atleast 3 weeks now that it would happen anytime soon...but now im concerned...

All babies are different. My little one didnt roll over till about 5 or so months ( I think) she still doesnt do it all that much. She prefers to sit. Dont stress too much about it, your little one will do it when he is ready.

I would not worry too much. There's room for variation in the milestones, don't get too hung up on them.

My boy is 4.5 months, and has only managed to roll front to back once, and back to front twice.

He easily manages to get onto his side, but he doesn't usually go any further.

Nope, you're DS sounds normal :) All babies develop at different stages! My own DS rolled front to back at 3 months, but he doesn't do it very often and doesn't do back to tummy - the arms still in the way, and he's almost 5 months now. He'll get there in his own time.

phew!
thankyou all so much!
i just get so worried as where im from other mums constantly compare their babies its truely unbelievable!

"my baby did this at 6 months"
"yeah well mine did it at 5 and 3 weeks"

its completely ridiculous (sp?)

thats why im so paranoid!

All babies are differnt . Ej was sitting early but really only in the last 2 weeks (shes 7 months) has she purposely rolled from back to front though did roll onto her sides and nearly the whole way over for a while before that.

PFFFFT ... all babies are SOO different..

Jack didn't roll till about 5 1/2 months (not with confidence anyway) - but he was sitting by 4 months.. but they said THAT was really early!!! (he is gifted .. of couse :D)

babies dont read the textbooks.. otherwise they would all wake at the same time for feeds .. and evelop in exactly the same way!!!

as long as your little man is getting plenty of tummy time - he will roll when he is ready :)

Veve is right, they are all different... The dude was rolling at 3 months (nobody believed me and he wouldn't do it when others were watching! ) but he has only just learnt to sit up at 10 months... I would be with Veve and Jack who is half the dude's age, Jack could sit and Luka coudn't  .

There are a few 10 month olds in my mothers' group who haven't rolled yet. Then there is one who is walking and a few who are crawling. ALL DIFFERENT... Don't make yourself paranoid like I did :o , waste of time.

Ethan is 6.5 months and still not rolling!!

He can sit up unsupported and now gets into the crawl position from sitting and back to sitting etc...
looks to me like he'll skip rolling altogether.. he has NEVER been interested in floor time and i mean NOT interested !!!

Dont stress :)

i got told that also by my GP who also tried telling me my DD was to fat
She was only just 4mths when she told me that she SHOULD be rolling, lucky i have been around babies my whole life (as i have such a big family and we all now have kids) So i chose not to take any notice of what she had to say...!
She told me my DD was to fat, her head is to big nd that she should be rolling... i was so angry i just wanted to kill her coz she said it in such a rude manner, nd i personally dont think there is anything wrong with DD and either do the other 5 docs i have seen about it. :banghead:

What made me laugh was DD started rolling 2 days later..teach her for saying she was to fat

DD didn't roll until she was 9 months old. She was commando crawling 1 week later.

Don't stress. Babies are all different.

Hey bub7, what a stupid doctor! HOW RUDE!!! Your DD looks absolutely gorgeous! My DS is pretty big with a lovely fat head, but I think that he's gorgeous and healthy! Don't ever listen to such negative attitudes - even if they do come from a so called professional!!!!!!!!!!

The dude was rolling at 3 months (nobody believed me and he wouldn't do it when others were watching! ) my DS was the same rolling back to front at 3 months but he was a very chubby rolly polly baby so he didn't have much trouble - DH & I were lucky at the time he did it because my mum was a witness to it so at least we knew people would believe her if they didn't believe us being the proud parents.

I wouldn't worry too much BrodiesMummy as all babies develop at different ages - one of my friends DD didn't crawl but she started walking at 10 mths, my DS crawled but didn't walk unaided until he was 14 months. Some eat solids sooner than others, some talk earlier than others - some of it is hereditary and some is just the little one is more advanced but most little ones by the time they get to school soon even out in their developmental stages.

Just enjoy the special little moments you have with your bubs and don't judge your bub by the next persons. Believe me once bubs starts rolling you'll wish that he couldn't do it because that's when rolling off the lounge/bed etc happens and you'll be at your wits end like all mums are.

My bub rolled just before 5 months, doesn't do it much though - on;y when she feels like it! My eldest didn't roll until she was about 7 months - she didn't have much tummy time though.

as others have been saying all bubs are different.. my little one is 5 months he started to roll a little when he was 3-3.5 months and then stopped .. he lost all interest in it and now he wants to sit up all the time... I think he will pass the rolling stage and move onto other things now... many bubs do that as well.

I was going to ask the same question after our CHN mentioned today that Jessica should be rolling regularly now (she is a little over 5 months).

The funny thing is that at our facilitated parents group, when she was three months old, the CHN (a different one) was talking about milestones and rolling, and just as she did so Jessica rolled from her tummy to her back twice in front of all the other parents, almost as if on demand. The thing is that she hasn't done it since, and it's been close to two months now.

I try to give her tummy time (at least 5 minutes before each feed) but she really does hate it. Ive been trying to extend it out to 10 minutes but she often ends up getting quite upset.
