Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else's bubs has had the same thing... he is on formula has been from 3 months he is now 5 months old he has 4 bottles during the day of 150ml's but doesnt always drink them and at night he has 1 150ml bottle he eats solids once a day at the moment... he is about 70cm (tall boy) and weighs in at 8.72 kg's ... I feel he should drink more but he seems like he is not ever so interested at the moment ... Is this normal???

Nothing at all to worry abuot, so long as your bub is gaining an appropriate amount of weight for his size. He sure sounds like a big healthy boy!

Claire is 8 months and 67cm/8.8 kg. Much smaller than your lad, but still a very healthy weight for her size (takes after her shorty-pants daddy!)

She has always been a bits & pieces feeder. She'll take what she wants from a bottle & might go back to it later, might not. Means a lot of wasted formula, but I've decided there are better things in the world to be concerned about! :D

Claire went through stages where she might only have some out of 3 or 4 180mL bottles in a day. I was worried at the time, but she seemed OK.

Even now, it's not unusual for her to have only 60mL here & 40mL there.

And she's not even that big on solids!

My DD drinks 3 x 180ml bottles and 1 x 240ml bottle a day. The 240ml is her first one in the morning as she sleeps from 7pm til between 7am - 8am so she's starving when she wakes up. She has 2 solid feeds a day and depending on when she woke in the morning and the time she has a sleep thru the day, sometimes she has a solid feed then a bottle straight after and will only drink about 120mls.

I don't think it's a huge problem, but I do worry about her getting dehydrated in the summer as she doesn't drink water very often, even tho I offer it to her.

I read somewhere recently that bubs should drink 100mls for every kg they weigh...so my DD should be drinking at least 800mls a day, but she doesn't.

I haven't had DD weighed for a while but at 5.5mths, before she started solids, she was 8kg and 72cm. So drinking the small ammount she does hasn't affected her at all.

Thanks for your replies... Bubs is putting on good weight so I dont think I will worry too much ... he still wakes so much at night (TEETH  ) and if he wakes to early for a bottle I can trick him with water as he is still half asleep... as he hates it any other time.

Bubs often get fussy about their feeding when their teeth are moving around and may take fewer bottles, or smaller and more frequent feeds. You may find that in a few weeks he gets his apetite back.
