View Full Version : How is the 3 day TTing different?

People seem to love the three day toilet training program. Is it really worth the money? I'm on a tight budget at the moment.

My plan for TTing is to choose a week where I have nothing on and can be home with DD. I'll put her in undies and watch her closely to catch her before she pees or "in the act" - and whisk her onto the toilet. Heap on the praise. Use a key word like "potty". Reward her when she does something in the potty. And I'll put her on the potty every hour or so.

Is there anything else I can do? Can you give me any tips? Would I benefit from the 3 day program or would I just be wasting money that could be better spent on groceries?

I paid the equivalent of $39 Aussie for the eBook, which is about the cost of 2 packets of the Aldi nappies I was using.

I haven't bought a single packet of nappies since the day we started 2.5 months ago (in fact, I gave away what nappies we had to a friend). So the 3 day TT program has paid itself off many times since then in the money we haven't had to spend on nappies (we would have spent about $180ish  if we had still been buying nappies).

If you're strapped for cash you can't afford NOT to do the 3 day TT program because you will be saving money by not buying nappies.

I still put DS in pull ups overnight, but if he wakes up dry I use the pull up again the next night, and he is dry around 90% of the time because he gets up to use the toilet in the night (he treats pull ups like undies if he's awake, it's only when he is in a really deep sleep that he doesn't wake up to go wee)

So is it quite different to my "plan"? I'm happy to pay for the program if it's different to what I was going to do anyway, but I'd hate to think I'm going to pay $39 for nothing:cool:

i would say it is similar to what you are planning to do but it is different and you can get it for free off some bubhubbers on here.

But the benefit of buying the ebook is that you get the on goign support of the lady that sells the book.

good luck

Ok, well the main thing I can see in your plan that is very different from the 3 day TT program is that putting them on the potty/toilet to 'try' is one of the biggest NO-NO's. During the 3 day TT program you NEVER put them on to try, but instead just follow them around (and play with them) for the entire 3 days. I was extremely lucky with DS, and it clicked for him in 4 hours, so after the initial 4 hours where it was just constant accidents, he was running to the potty himself saying "Oh, potty!" and from day 2 onwards I didn't need to following him around quite so closely, though I still kept a close eye on him and if he went to his bedroom I did go in and check on him.

Are you planning on throwing/giving away the rest of your nappies? That is part of the 3 day TT program, so from day 1 you go straight to undies and never use another nappy again (though I use pull ups at night, see my thread for details about that).

I would suggest not using the pull ups if you are going to follow the 3 day toilet trainging. We have gone cold turkey and the night and going out was the easiest for us, but probably not for everone.

I think TysonsMummy co sleeps so changing the family bed is a bit different/annoying to changing a cot...

Yes, we do cosleep, so you're spot on about changing the family bed. But if we weren't cosleeping I would totally be pushing for the night training thing already, so I agree with you about doing the nights as well, rather than using pull ups.

One good idea I saw somewhere here about making sheet changes on a toddler bed or cot is to put two layers of sheets on the cot/bed each night with a plastic sheet between them, and if they wet the bed you just quickly take the top sheets off and put them back to bed, and this minimises disturbance to the child. Though they might still have to go to the toilet, but at least it would be a quicker process.

TysonsMummy i hope it was ok to talk for you!! Great idea about the double sheets. To keep it cheap I use a garbage bag, then a towel and then his sheet...

Yeah, of course! :) You know what's even cheaper, buy a sheet of plastic from Clark Rubber, you just cut it to size and re-use it over and over, it only costs about $4 a meter

Thanks ladies :)

I'll give it a go. I've just spent $40 on a step/seat for the toilet so I might have to wait to buy the program.

I might give it a go on my own first - and if that doesn't work, I'll order the e-book next payday.

I have a few days with DD (no daycare etc) so I'll go nappy-free day and night and see what happens.

Is it possible to do nappy-free nights if she is in a cot? I guess she could still say "pee pee" and I could whisk her off to the loo!

My son is still in a cot, he calls out mummu in the middle of the night we take him to the toilet and then pop him back to bed at the moment he wakes at 4am to wee and gets up at 6am he wakes dry 97% of the time.

Fantastic!:yelclap: I'm so excited! She gets home in half an hour so we'll start then.

I like the idea of not confusing her too much by doing nights as well - so I'm glad that's possible while still in the cot.

Bye bye nappies... hopefully :fingerscrossed:

Hi,I think we need to start toilet training soon and this thread caught my eye. What is the three day toilet training program and where can I find out about it? DS is nearly 2 1/2 and HATES sitting on the toilet or potty, so up until now I haven't really put much emphasis on it at all. The thought of him being toilet trained in 3 days sounds amazing!

I haven't ordered the 3-day program. I'm going to try it myself first. If you are interested, it's an ebook you order off the internet. Some other ladies on here have posted a link to it.

My DD is very hyper and never sits still for more than two seconds. What has worked for us to get her to sit still on the toilet (sometimes!!) is a bubble blower. She is only allowed to use it when sitting on the toilet.

I also bought a set of toilet steps from Big W. She seems to be much happier or more comfortable on there than on her potty. I guess she wants to sit on the toilet like a real grown-up.

Hope that helps :)

Yeah, seeing my DD sit still (whether she pees or not) is a miracle in itself

i got the ebook, have two kids, one who is over the age the suggest and she had been started traning before and my son who I started training using the ebook.

I love the ebook. He was day and night trained in 3 days. I was sooooo happy with the book.

I have still not got my daughter trained, I am going to wait till school holidays and start her on the ebook system.

I ended up buying it too - so many people seem to be happy with it, I thought it was worth a try.
