Hi, i know that this topic has probably been done to death but we need help! Until easter DS slept 12-13 hours every night and had done so since he was 12 weeks.

Since Good Friday (2 months ago) he has been waking every night - at leats once. He is now 7 months. His night time routine is always the same and roughly the same time - dinner, bath and last bottle then sleep (he usually falls asleep on the bottle). he is usually asleep by 7-7.30pm. Recently he has started crying out in his sleep every hour or so till about 11pm. We go in and pat him or put the dummy in till he is back in a sound sleep then leave and take the dummy out. Then he starts waking anywhere from 12ish to 4am, at least once or twice and more often than not will need a bottle to go back to sleep. if you try other things he will just wake again within half hour and ou have to give him a feed anyway. Some nights we are re-settling him 5-6 times. It is a bit like having a newborn again. Then regarldess of what time his last feed was he is then wide awak by 6-6.30am (which would be fine if he was staying alseep).

He now eats three great meals a day and drinks 150 - 200 mls approx four times a day.

We have ensured he is warm enough - sleeping bags, heater, socks on his hands, gone back to wrapping, flanalette sheets etc etc etc. We have put bongela on the nights we think it could be teeth ( he has none yet).

What could it be? I have read that around 6 months they start waking again and they jsut grow out of it??? is this true? does anyone have any suggestions?

Cant really help you ... just letting you know my bubs is doign it at the moment but he has never really slept right through.. I had finally got him to do 7.5 hour sleeps before he wakes now it has gone back to 4 or 5 then he wakes at least another 4 or 5 times... I think it's his teeth... it is driving me crazy

Hope all goes well for you

How long has he been having 3 meals a day? I started giving my DS 3 meals a day and he started waking thru the night again, as soon as I went back to only 2 meals he went back to sleeping thru again. I started him on solids at 3.5mths...DD didn't start solids til she was almost 6mths and has only just started having 2 meals a day in the last week, she is handling it great :fingerscrossed: hope it stays that way.

Umm...maybe bub is having a growth spurt? DD has had a few, she has slept thru most nights from about 3mths, but we recently went thru a stage that lasted about 2 or 3 weeks where she would wake at 1am every night. She is back to sleeping from 7pm - 7/8am now...but I don't know how long it's going to last this time.

It could be teeth...DD doesn't have any either, but she is not showing any signs of them yet.

You could try getting rid of the dummy? I found that when DS went to sleep without his dummy/bottle he slept better than the nights he fell asleep drinking a bottle or sucking the dummy. DD spat the dummy out from day 1...she has been a very easy bub so far...I dread her teenage years

Hope bub starts sleeping better for you soon :hugs:

He has been having three meals since about 5.5 months. I don't know how he would go with two - he adores his food!?

He doesn't rely heavily on the dummy - more often than not he spits it out, it just soothes him when he is crying and then as soon as he is calm he doesnt want it anymore, and we dont ever leave him unsupervised with it in.

I know its probably just an age thing and we will just work though it, you just get to that stage where you are so desparate for a magic potion!

You meantioned he has no teeth yet. Maybe they are on the move under his gums. Have feel on his gums and also see if they are inflamed or red. Red cheeks, runny poos and kiccups are also a sign of teething. By 7 mths Wy was into teething in a painful way. It's also a new type of pain so they get upset easier.

Kate,

I have the same problem as you, my twin boys are 7.5 months old and for the last 4 weeks one of the twins has been waking me up 3 times a night, he is on 3 solids a day and drinking plenty of milk, its as if we have gone backwards and he has become a newborn again. Its really fustrating because i am so tired and i am going back to work in 8 weeks and i dont know what to do. I am trying him on a thicker formula, they were on NAN 1HA Gold and yesterday i put them on S26 as its thicker, i got advice from the pharmasist and i thought i would give it a go. So maybe check what formula you are on. It didnt go too bad last night he woke up at 2:30 then 6 so it was better. I may have to do a sleep school to learn to settle him.

hi

At around 5-7 mths babys can start to wake in the night because there sleep patterns change so many babies do this my DD did at 6 mths by 9 mths Id had it so I started on tizzie halls routine from then on she slept through 12 hrs each night now shes 14 mths, its not control crying, you dont tease by going in and out it is hard and youll have to get rid of the dummy and also put him to bed awake but well worth it. Go to saveoursleep.com.au if you need support Im here good luck.
