My DS is nearly 13 mths old and isnt walking, i no thats still normal but he isnt showing any shows and his not keen to be on his feet, my home is open planned living so theres no furniture he could walk between and i no most babies/ toddlers start walking between things, so now im worried that he wont walk for ages because i no he wont walk just into air.
I should say he is walking around furniture and pulling his self up.
Is there anything i can be doing to encourage him? I fear he will be 2 and not walking . '
When did ur baby walk?
My DD is 15mths old today and she has just taken her first steps.
My DS walked at 11months and he ran fast by the time he was one. They both had the same house, parents, toys etc.. in the environment I just think it was about personality for them. I always thought DD would walk quickly to catch up and play with DS but it was the opposite because he entertained her so much and carried toys etc to her that she had less incentive to walk.
When DD was nearly 14mths and standing up on things we encouraged her to walk between things by holding her hands and walking her....like you we just thought she wasn't going to walk until she was 2!!
My DS didn't walk until 15months. My little sis was a late walker at 2+ and absolutley nothing wrong with her at all.
If you want to encourage you could get something that he can stand behind and push along (there are a million of those walker type toys to choose from - we just had a tonka ride on that DS like to push from behind) but whether you do so or not he'll walk when he's good and ready.
Also when he is walking around the furniture (my DS wasn't even doing that at 13months) you could position yourself just a few steps away and see if he has any interest in 'coming to mummy'.
I really wouldn't worry:).
My Ds's both walked by 1.
DD just didn't want to do ANYTHING. Didn't crawl till 10.5 months. Didn't start pulling herself up till just before one. Started cruising furniture around shortly after that.
I didn't think she would be walking for months.
Then at 13 months from nowhere she let go and off she went. Within days she was running and Hasn't looked back since.

DS didn't crawl until 10.5 months and didn't walk until 14 months. He was "Cruising" but not a great deal.
If you are worried, get it checked out, but otherwise just lots of encouragement, lots of walking holding on to your hands (it'll kill your back!! but if you haven't got much to hold on to in the play areas, at least its something!) or maybe a walking toy (not a walker but a push trolley).
Actually, thinking about it now, my in-laws gave DS a solid plastic push trolley that was practically IMPOSSIBLE to tip over and that was what really encouraged him to want to walk.
Good luck!!

DD walked right on 16 months.
I don't think you need to worry just yet. :)

I think it's just a matter of when they're ready and feel confident in themselves hun.
My DD has been standing and cruising on furniture since 6months. Walking with a push-walker from 8months. Walking well holding onto a finger from 8-9months...
She will be 1 next Thursday, and still does not walk unaided. She is able to stand by herself without a wobble if she's distracted, but as soon as she realises, she'll crouch down. She can takes steps, but crouches down if you encourage her to walk towards you  So, she has all capability, but seems to choose not to. I have no idea why, apart from she just must not feel ready.
In their own time I think, with lots of happy encouragement :hugs:
