Hi,
I'm breastfeeding my son but I'm trying to get him to take a bottle for that occasional night out with my partner and hopefully so I can do some part time work in a couple of months. I tried it when he's really hungry and he takes it and feeds really well until he realises that it's not mum and lets go and cries! So I know that he knows how to take one...

I know this is a really common problem but I refuse to never be able to leave him with anyone.

Thanks
Lu

What about a cup, syringe or spoon?

I had the same prob with dd2 and it took ages I just tryed everyday and I used different bottles and teats and even a sipper cup (the avent type with the valve) and after she got used to using that she started to use a bottle.

Perhaps try your partner bottle feeding him when you are not in the room.

Or the opposite, if it is someone else feeding him that he is rejecting, that other person wearing one of your shirts whilst doing so.

I alwasy found DD would not take a bottle if I was around and certainly not if I offered it. Try it when you are not there...maybe when he wakes up from a sleep and get your partner to try it.

ALso try different bottles, I found Tomee Tippee worked best for us for both kids as it more like my breast...I have small nipples and the baby always feels my breast tissue around the nipples when feeding. The TT bottle most closely resembles this

I've tried my partner feeding him when he's really hungry and it was worse...

I might try the sipper cup idea. I've found that many people have this problem and it's just a case of finding a teat that suits the child, maybe I haven't looked hard enough...

The thing is though, he knows how to feed from a bottle. When I fed him, for a brief moment he fed really well then he realised it wasn't me and stopped. I suppose when he knows he can have the boob instead (because I give it to him after), why would he continue...

*sigh* I wish I'd completed more of my psychology course...
