hi:wave:

just had a question. Do you think there is a problem with not drying wipes after washing them? The last couple of days with the rainy weather I just put them straight back into their box after coming out of the washing machine.
It was just meant to be a short term thing while it's so rainy, but now I can't think of any reason not to continue doing it this way.
WDYT?

Hi everyone - hope you don't mind me crashing now and then

BTBM - I can't see any reason not to use the wipes straight from a wash. I often do the same if I have run out of dry ones.

Oh dear there goes me "not buying anymore nappies", I just ordered 3 x night bonnibuns night nappies and a bonnibuns swim nappy. Yay I can't wait for them to arrive :yelclap:
I am so looking forward to trying the night time ones with all the great reviews you ladies give them

thanks for that, I'll probably line dry them when the sun comes back again so it will kill any germs that might be hiding.

My nappies came out rather stinky today, so I put them back in on a hand wash cycle at 40c, normally do a cold quick wash. I think the lack for sun-drying is taking it's toll.

Did anyone get any fluffy mail today? I didn't, hopefully tomorrow:)

it's good not having to wait for a special 'stocking' to buy those ones. What colours did you get? I got the zebra print, I'm curious to see what the other colours look like.

SmileyBJ - that will be your problem, only one wash. They need about 3 the first time, you don't need to dry them in between each wash though, just 3 cycles in the machine and then out to dry and they should be much more absorbant.

kezzaskids - my DD is 12 months old (in a week) and weighs 11 kilos, she still fits the medium Itti's with no hassles. I've been using the mediums since she was 3 1/2 months old. I have a couple of large Itti's that I use with extra padding for nights, have tried them a couple of times during the day (without the extra padding) and they just work their way down, shows of her cute little builders bum!

My DD frequently gets a red bottom and DH has always blamed the nappies - nothing really bad but it does flare up quite regularly. We have just been on holiday for 4 weeks and used disposables. Something we noticed was that whenever she did a poo it really stunk - they were foul!! Since we've been back and using cloth the smell has gone! I think the problem is that with the cloth we don't smell when she has done a poo. Sounds weird but it doesn't smell nearly as much in the cloth nappies - she doesn't complain whe she's done a poo so often I have no idea, so if she does it soon after I've changed she could be in it for a while before I notice. Anyone else noticed that disposables stink much more than cloth?

It was a sad day for us when we decided to use disposables on holiday! We had used cloth only for 7.5 months and I was so proud of myself!! But we were travelling lots and it wouldn't have been practical. The minute we got home she was straight back into the cloth - now my goal is cloth only until she's toilet trained. Which should be possible, no more holidays planned and whenever we go away for a 3 or 4 days I use the cloth one's.

Anway speaking of nappies, best go and get them off the line!

thats interesting about the smell!!!
All of my 4 other kids were in sposies and on formula. They always smelt bad and I blamed the formula. I thought that Samara didnt smell because she is breast fed (on solids now though) and not because of the nappies!! She is the same, I never know when she has done a poo. I change her when she wakes and then a couple of hours later when she goes back to bed.....

Aw okeys, thanks for the tip!! :D Will wash them another couple of times and hopefully that helps. Ive also noticed that you cant smell a pooey nappy nearly as well when using cloth!!

That reminds me, I have to check my post office box tomorrow, hopefully my FB dreams has arrived too! I could only get a large night nappy, I cannot believe how quickly everything went. I'm not sure how long I have to wait before DS fits into this one, he's only 5 months old. LOL.

I'm hoping my Fluffy Bubs and Bonnibuns arrive tomorrow since I got emails saying they had both been posted! :smiliedance:

Alice did another of her 'drink until her bladder is going to explode' things and then soaked her nappy in one wee! Since it was so close to dinner time I just whipped the wet nappy off and let her have some nappy free time... and she pooped on the floor again!!! :hissy: Seriously I think my daughter is just a wild child who is happiest with no pants on!

spottysocks - definately agree with with the smell factor! disposables stink really bad. DD usually grunts and makes ooahhh sounds when she is doing a poo tho so that is my best indication but at least the smell isn't as bad.

newme - its so disappointing when fluffy doesn't turn up when you expect it. over here in perth metro it takes around 5 to 6 working days to get anything :(

Teegzie - lol. DD did a big poo in her bathtub the other night...she was so proud i swear she was laughing.

thanks for the tip I've just gleaned from the thread about cloth nappies not smelling as bad! that's a positive if I ever heard one... how does everyone go with disposing smelly poo's down the toilet? any gagging? is it hard to get rid of from the cloth?

hi and welcome to bubhub and to parenthood:wave:

you are due on my wedding anniversary!!

With poos, newborn breastfed poo is pretty liquidy so I just leave it on the nappy and it washes out in the machine. I use flushable liners and flushable wipes for my 2 year old's poos that way I just drop the whole lot in the toilet, really easy!

jotsmum
22-05-2009, 12:38
how does everyone go with disposing smelly poo's down the toilet? any gagging? is it hard to get rid of from the cloth?

Nerwborn poos are easy as they soak in and can just be shoved in the wash as if it was a wee. The first 'solids' poo (no matter if you use cloth or sposies) is a real shock to the system - how does something so innocuous as apple turn into that . I use flushable liners (they can be rinsed and re used if only wet) and pick the whole lot up and drop it down the loo, so easy and no danger of covering myself or the bathroom while trying to spray it off (I am really uncoordinated). If there is anything on the cloth I just scrap it off with toliet paper and the whole lot goes into the loo and the nappy gets dried in the sun after the wash to take care of any stains - which reminds me have to get the nappies out of the machine :)

:gloomy: My fluffy mail arrived today and I was at the doctors so it is waiting at the post office and I can't get it till next Thursday :crying:. I really wanted it to arrive before I went away so dissapointed.

On the up side though there should be two more fluffy mail parcels waiting there when I get back on Thursday so lots of fluffly mail to open

jotsmum- aww what a bummer about missing the post this morning :(. Least you'll have a nice welcome home gift! lol

bbyrmsy- Welcome! I have a box of cheap liners, i put one in each nappy and if he poo's I chuck it with the poo in the bin, if he just wets then i put it in the wash and then use again.

Im very impatient lol... How long should it take for fluffy mail to arrive?? :o

:shakehands: Nice to meet you all, thanks for your warm welcome!!

Sorry I'm new to this - so even though they say you don't need liners with MCN (correct abbreviation I hope!) it's probably best for your own hygiene & sanity to use them?

I got my fluffy mail! :smiliedance: I went to the hairdressers and it was sitting there waiting for me when I got home! Love my fluffy bubs and bonnibuns! I actually resisted putting them on Alice straight away and am prewashing now. Hope I don't get confused with how they all snap back together!

Teegzie - lol. DD did a big poo in her bathtub the other night...she was so proud i swear she was laughing.

Alice did that today! While i was in the shower with her no less! :barf: She must save it all up until her nappy comes off! DP was gretty grossed out, despite the fact that he didn't have to deal with it!

Welcome to bub hub  & congrats on your pregnancy!

I tried liners & found them to be a hassle, so I don't use them. It's a personal preference. I just grab the poo out with a wipe & when I wash the nappies, any bits that are left come off & you dry them in the sun & that will help get rid of any stains you may get.

I use liners for my pocket nappies, and no liners for my bamboo fitteds. My bub is still only breastfed so her poo soaks straight through the liners anyway, but I just feel they help in the pocket nappies.

On the top shelf in DD bedroom are 10 ittis and 8 magicalls just sitting there all now to small for DD and I still have enough to wash every 3 days!

I have decided the greenkids bamboo inserts and BBH bamboo fitted are made for the dryer! they are soooooo soft and lovely. Because of the rain here in perth I had them on the clothes horse since yesterday and I decided to finnish them off just now in the dryer and they are just georgous!!

Gosh you girls are a chatty lot! and yay a new thread! 4 pages already!

Welcome to purplebird and bbyrnsy to the monster chat thread of nappies!

Teegzie (who I'm going to rename Mothertoshewhopoopsonfloor) - oh dear Alice's antics crack me up!! I think that it's time for you to start sitting your little darling on the toilet in the hope she does it there

Spottysocks - thats interesting about the poo smell in cloth, i never really noticed! Maybe I can use that as a convincing factor for ppl to use cloth.

SmileyBJ - I feel like for you ittis are more trouble than they're worth! Peapods better than ittis OMG your ittis must be bad!!

Who was asking about cloth wipes and not drying them before using them? I think if you use them straight after washing it's ok, but try not to keep them damp for too long in a box because they can grow mould (so probably not longer than a day in the box after washign and being damp). I use my wipes off the line all the time when damp (saves me having to wet them to wipe anyway!)

Well i can't wait to go home to see if I have any fluffy mail. Doubt it would be here that quick... tempted to buy more nappies from wild child so i can combine postage

Addition: oops Kezzaskids posted at the same time at me so didn't get to reply! Which Sandmans print did you get? I like my sandmans :)

hi....you just keep the bamboo trifold in the pocket and the snap on booster and fleece covered bit on top. the microfleece top bit is the only part that poo goes on. if its breastfed poo then it will seep all the way through any hows. just like a normal nappy :)

 That was the fluffy mail I got - GK's with bamboo inserts and boosters. Oh so soft! I wanted to put them on DD straight away, but it's bedtime and I'd best give them a few washes before the first overnight use. Lucky I saved my washing this morning so I could do it tonight and get a pre-wash in there. I'll be whipping them straight out though to hang and dry overnight though, they'll be on her first thing in the morning!

SmileyBJ - That sucks about the itti's. I would let them know just in-case they've had a bad batch go through and these were part of them just not picked up? I know somewhere had a bad batch of PUL recently, so it is possible.

I was so tempted by the Sandmans there! They looked so lovely and soft! I think had I not been with DP I would have grabbed one (despite having 3 new night nappies already :o) and got some custom Pookey Pockets done up too!

I just ordered a cobbled minkee showpony from Wild Child. :o I couldn't resist! As of now though I'm putting myself on a self imposed nappy ban. Until expo anyway. Oh and I still have to get my order of BOB nappies. But definately a ban after all that!

My bonnibuns and FB nappies are so nice! I prewashed and hung them out but it looks like rain so ended up bringing them back in and putting the shells on the clothes horse and the inserts in the dryer. I had too many to put them all on the clothes horse, and they would take way too long to dry!

Maybe I shouldn't buy wool covers since I don't have a dryer and winter is coming.
LOL ixnay! I was about to reply this when i saw your later post!

DBA - YAY on the fluffy mail!

SmileyBJ - hmm maybe you could let them know and send one back and they could test it? I dunno how that works... but honestly smiley, I put one on my daughter without washing it and it went ok for a little bit. I'm wonderign if it's bad PUL like someone else mentioned.

Teegzie - my daughter poops on the toilet! Only so she doesn't dirty my beautiful nappies . Ohhh and nice on the wild child cobbled showpony! That's a limited edition minky isn't it?

22-05-2009, 22:38
Yeah it says limited edition. Not sure how limited it is though. The email newsletter said that very few places would be getting the cobbled minkee and it just looked too funky to pass up! :p I got a plain green workhorse nappy as well to see what they are like.

I just dumped the basket load of dry inserts etc from my washed nappies on the bed and had trouble working out what was what! Thank god most WAHM label their inserts and boosters otherwise I'd have been there all night trying to remember what was for what brand!

I also got frustrated waitung for the nappy shells to dry on the clothes horse and put them in the dryer on the airing setting. :o I just want to have the nappies all snapped together for tomorrow morning so I can see them on Alice!

I can't wait to get my WC nappies! I've heard good things about them!

There is a magpie trying to eat my nappies! I hung them on the clothes horse and put it on the front porch to catch what little sun we get today and the darn birds keep coming up and pecking them! :hair:

I've had to start using a drawer in Alice's change table to put nappies in instead of the nappy stacker because I have too many nappies for it! :p I still only have about 25ish (haven't actually counted) but it is still nice to see a drawer full of fluffy goodness!

I am so excited by all of this MCN talk, I can't wait to be doing it all myself!!! Am I correct in thinking that no-one uses just one brand of MCN? and that the different brands offer different things? Some are better for nighttime etc and I can gather definitely that they all have different colours / patterns that seem to be well worth collecting!!

Hi cloth lovers:)

Was there a Wild Child stocking recently? I've been trying to go to her website for a couple of days and can't get there:confused:

A question.....I have a couple of Wild Childs size 2.....how can I explain....they need to be snapped quite tightly around DD, and then the bit that is overlapping works it's way down and hangs out the bottom of the waist ......not explaing it very well am I? LOL. Maybe someone will KWIM. They might be just too big or maybe just a bad fit on DD. They are so gorgeous.....I'll be bummed if I have to swap them:(

My Fluffybubs haven't arrived......but not even the postie can get into our town - we are cut off by floods

Harriet - yes there was a wild child stocking a few days ago. And I know exactly what you mean, you've got wing droop!
http://www.ozclothnappies.org/info.html#wingdroop
It probably means the fit isn't good for your baby, as in your baby's legs are chubbier than their waist (I have that problem! My daughter has chunky legs but a very slim waist).
Is it for your 5 month old? You probably could still fit the size 1s (my daughter still can fit her size 1 and also her size 2)

Some people find one that works & they just stick with that, while others like to have lots of different ones. Totally up to you.

For night time, you need a night nappy, which just has more boosting than a day nappy so it lasts. There are lots of good ones out there.

Some people prefer patterns, some prefer minky, some like a mix, again just personal choice.

Each baby is different though, so I would maybe get 1 of a few different brands to start with & see what suits your bub.

I was going to say the same thing, that's called wing droop.

My 12month old is still in size 1, so it could be that they're still too big for her. You might need to put them away till she's a bit bigger.

NibbleCurlynBub

I haven't caught onto the fuzzy, embroidered etc nappies. They just don't do it for me lol. My stash is basically terry flats, prefolds and disanas. BBH PUL and Fluffies covers so far.

I did have some MM Hemp but I passed them onto a person who needed them more than me. Shes having number 7! They were 2nd hand anyways so no skin off my nose and I didn't really like them hehe.

I don't use any one brand. Different brands fit better at different stages of bubs growing, plus it is nice to have a couple of pretty/special nappies as well. Plus if you don't try a few different ones then you might not find the perfect fit for your baby! :p That's the excuse I tell DP anyway!

What size did you get? They are a very generous size, DS is in size 1.

I got size 2, which might be a bit big for her from what others are saying, but at least they should fit later on down the lineif that's the case.

Actually what size BOB nappies did you get? I've been tossing up whether or not to get medium or large, but as I haven't seen any of her nappies IRL I don't know how generous they are. Alice is a bit of a skinny mini around the waist. She has kind of chubby legs, but is no way a roley poley baby. :detective:

Alice gets knarley wing droop in her Itti Bittis because they have to overlap so much at the front. It's worse when DP puts one on her because he doesn't pull the wings up to delay the droop.

I was looking at the wild childs and going to order a size 2......

Does it make a difference when they start wwalking? Do you think I shoul keep a few of her medium size for when that starts happening ( not for at least another 6 months) ? I have buyers fro all her mediums......

i have found that things that didnt fit DD at her chubbiest (10 Months) fit her perfectly now at two years and they did fit as well once she slimmed down with walking etc... i think it would be safe to keep all your larges... you should be ok without the mediums if she is already out of them now:yes:

I got meds in my BOB's. I must admit when I 1st saw them, I thought OMG they're going to be too small as they are an extremely trim make, but they fit fantastically! He's in a med itti & i think these look a little smaller than my itti's. Chais is 9kgs & his waist is 40cms & he's a total skinny mini too, he has absolutely no butt  His thighs are also pretty skinny, he's 26cms around the top. I'm glad I got medium as they fit well now & I have my new bub who can wear them too, but depending on her measurements, maybe go a large so they last longer

Yes, she prob will thin out a bit when she starts walking, but just think, if you sell all her meds now, you've got a perfect excuse to buy more in the future if you need to :D

I was looking at them too, but decided against it.

I did a swap where I purchased a brand new MD pocket (for the other person not myself) though and that looked fantastic, so if I were going to get any, the pockets would be my choice.
But the AIO is stuffed with only cotton.. So I doubt it would be as absorbent as I want or need it to be.

Kotokai - that's good to know coz i ordered mediums as well. My DD is about 9kg too but she's got chubby thighs.

Kezzaskids - my daughter fit her size 2 from about 10-11 months, but she isn't 10kg yet. I'd probably get the size 2. About the walking... i don't think that they shrink in size exactly, their nappy size seems to stay static I think for a while as they exercise their little legs.

Oh wow your pregnant again! :smiliedance: Just saw your ticker at the bottom of your post!
Bec at the Cloth Nappy Shop does some nice newborn fitteds. I saw them the other day and they were so teeny tiny and cute! What sort of nappies did you want? fitted or prefolds etc?

Sparrowgal I've got 1 medium itti bitti. I originally got some mediums but when I tried them on Alice they were too small so swapped them for larges. But she must have thinned out and grown taller and skinnier in the last little while because my sister gave me a medium and it fits really well. :dizzy: I might actually get some more mediums to bulk out my stash and that way I've got them on hand already when we have another baby.
I'm thinking of getting some medium and some large BOB nappies. I figure again if the mediums don't fit Alice they will be there for the next baby. And as we are TTC now the elastic won't have time to die before use.

I have just recieved some Bubble bubs Bam Bam fitted nappies . They are a small bamboo fitted nappy that fits from newborn to about 9 kgs . They don't have any snaps or velcro so just do up with a snappi and are really well priced . i got mine when they were having a sale - I think they worked out to be about $13 each . I have seen them on sale a couple of time during this pregnancy so if your patient I reckon you could pick them up this cheap .
I will get to try them out pretty soon ;) so i will have to let you know what they are like . The lady who makes them says she still uses hers on her 12 month old so i should get my moneys worth out of them .

Other then those I have some bamboo booroi prefolds and one newborn magic all . i have heard that fitteds / prefolds with covers are better for containment on newborns so thats the way i have gone .

Being a first time mum Im new to this but bought a green kids complete pack when pregnant and love MCN's :smiliedance: I will never use sposies. But my problem is I think I am addicted and want to try all types of MCN's I just love the funky colours and patterns! I dont know where to start and I have read some ladies have problems with fit,my DS is a little chubby (green kids fit great) and I dont want to buy some and find they only fit for a short while or not at all. I would prefer not to have to use covers also. I was hoping some of you more experianced (sp) with MCN's could recommend some great nappys I could try?
(its a bit overwhelming there is so many and evertime I see a new one I want it too )

Any advise would be really appreciated.

Perhaps nappies like Baby Kangas, BBH Magic-Alls, Cushie Tushies (all AIOs) or similar (don't get Ittis, they are designed for really slim bubs) would serve you well?
Or you can try really fancy ones... Like from Wild Child or CGR.

Taliistheword - oh congrats on pregnancy! Personally I like fitteds and covers for newborns because of pooplosions (and I tried pockets, AIOs, fitteds for my DD when she was NB), so my recommendations for newborn babies would be kissaluvs (need boosters as they get older though), CK raphaels, bambams, bamboo lushies from sushemp, and baby beehinds fitteds.

SmileyBJ - that's GREAT that the ittis are working better for you! Yay for money not wasted!

Born2bemummy - I'm glad your FB's worked overnight yay to full time cloth!

Ryderjacksonsmum - welcome to the world of addictive cloth! Sounds like you're a OSFM AIO/pocket person! Hmm, BumGenius, Hautes, Babybeehinds AIO multifit, Blueberry are OSFM pcoket nappies which are quite popular, though personally Blueberries are my favourite. Nibblycurlynbun has mentioned some other ones which are good too!

babygirl - you have a snap machine?? OMG awesome! Can we pay you to come over and use it?

That was me. It is a wool cushion about 15cm thick that my 15yo liked to cuddle in bed (until the kittens decided to christen it). I've washed it three times on the wool (warm) setting on the machine with a commercial wool wash in the machine.

Tomorrow, I'll try bicarb and am guessing the wool (warm) setting still. I can put my BBH fitted (hemp and bamboo) in on that load also, right? (I dont like to run the machine for one item only.)

Nope, cannot be opened, a single unit and rather thick in the centre. (And yes, not exactly nappy orientated, though it does involve urine, and I thought someone might have an idea because of techniques for washing wool covers if they get smelly.)

I was looking at the GEN-Y covers last night. A couple are gorgeous! But Yeah I agree very exy. I won't be buying one that's for sure. :S

I'am contemplating buying 10 of those kissaluv boosters you mentioned. I had a look and they don't look to bad. They should be alright in terrys and prefolds? I have 24 bamboo boosters a lady made for me that are a kidney shape but I think since it's winter pretty much I should buy a few more because bamboo take ages to dry...apparently.

I have 24 bamboo and 20 something fleece liners that should be ok shouldn't it? I also have 10 microfibre boosters that were given to me. A couple have fleece on the other side that is ok to put against the baby. I can use the microfibre boosters can't I if I put a fleece liner to stop it touching the babys skin?

I was really impressed with my GK's overnight. DD2 is a huge wetter so I was sure I'd be up for a change but nope, she lasted 12-13 hours last night in a Gk with Bamboo insert and 2 bamboo boosters... and they've only had their initial pre-wash so should get more absorbant over the next few washes too. Just need a heap more now. DD2 also inherited DD1's AIO's today, they're an ok fit, but will be much better when she chubs out a bit around the waist. So I'm up to 9 MCN's for her now, but with winter here and the fact that I love the bamboo, I really think I need to at least double that in the next month or so, especially considering that she's borderline outgrown her NB AIO's(would barely all them an AIO though because the waterproof layer isn't very waterproof and still needs covers(can you tell I'm not a covers fan!).

Ixnay - I'm no expert, but that amount of boosters should see you through for a while, you shouldn't need a booster in every nappy, especially in the first few weeks when their wee's are so little and you're changing so regularly. I don't have any experience with microfibre though - are you not supposed to have it touching their skin?

no fluffy mail today:no: I'm waiting for my bonnibuns and a sandman night nappy from a swap. At least we got enough sun today to finish drying off the nappies I washed yesterday. And the fluffy bubs is almost dry again, should be ready for tonight:D

Sigh no fluffy mail for me either.

Sigh my daughter is getting better with her toiletting, I hardly used any nappies today... maybe I should just leave nappies on her to give me an excuse to use them instead of training her to use the toilet...

was just going thru some of my old newborn nappies (they're not really that old, I only used them 1 year ago) and gosh the elastic is a bit dodgy already!

:yelclap: I recieved HEEEEEAPS of fluffy mail today!!! :yelclap:

1 bitti dlish all in one, 1 bitti dlish snap in one,
mini booster, 2 mandy mac nappies plus a snappi,
2 baby behind magic alls and a bbh cover,
2 cushie tushies basix, a bummis wet bag
and 3 hautes pocket nappies!!! :D

Can't wait to get them washes and really hoping for some sunshine 2morrow!!!

1 quick question... I found my nappies smelt of urine today after i washed them... could that be because of the lack of sun/airation laterly due to the weather or should i put them on a longer wash cycle?? None of them have hemp and there washed every 2nd day...

You ordered the recession buster pack from DDU didn't you!

Anyone else feel a little *too* nice towards their postie when he delivers squishy fluffy goodness?

Yep - My fluffy mail (2 ittis) arrived on Saturday. The same delivery driver always delievers stuff to our place and on Saturday he was particularly chatty and I found out all about his grand-daughter and he was asking all about my DD. I have a feeling that with my growing nappy addiction I will end up knowing all about his granddaughter

I am having trouble getting nappies dry and even DH has agreed that we need more. I just haven't decided what to get yet. I am a little tempted with the recession buster pack. I would probably faint with all those nappies arriving at once. I have a very small stash so far and usually only buy a couple at a time.

NibbleCurlynBub
25-05-2009, 20:42
 I've gotten to know my package guy (as we call him because he always delivers packages, duh) reasonably well. Friendly guy.

I was so tempted by the recession buster pack. But then reason kicked in and I thought hmm I don't need this, or this, or this and then decided I'd scrub the pack and would 'make up' my own. I am VERY happy with what I got.

and I think I will probably scream when I see that much fluffy mail at once!!! (I also have only every brought max of 4 covers or 2 nappies at once :o)

SmileyBJ- I'm very jealous over your fluffymail! I had also considered the recession pack, but alas, reason also kicked in and i realised i really didn't need it. and for some reason my hautes are fitting on bub as good as they used to, so glad i didn't in the end!

Do you ladies find that? Like some nappies fit really well, then bub grows a bit then the nappies don't fit as well? I'm hoping he kinda grows back into them in a few weeks time! My GKs are also doing the same thing- the inserts bunch up and don't catch the wees as well so leaks everywhere quite quickly. not happy, cos i love my hautes and GKs!

Quick question- how often do you all strip wash? Just when the absorbancy goes, or on a more regular basis?

Anyone know how possible it is to get a fluffybubs night nappy? lol each time i check there all sold out

on the website it states the owner will be restocking in July but trust me the wait is worth it :)

Vickih - i never strip wash as i don't use any detergents (washing powder) or creams. Not sure how often you should do it if you do use detergents..you can always test your nappy by pouring some water on it, if it beads it needs a strip, if it absorbs it doesn't. if you find the nappies are leaking and still dry underneath then that could be an indicator that a strip wash will be beneficial

vickih

In the 6 months I have been using my nappies I have never strip washed. To wash my nappies I only use 2 tablespoons of planet arc powder which doesnt leave a residue.
I have found my GK inserts have shrunk.... that causes a leak every now and then!

 Hey ladies, i'm just posting a little review for the fashionbaby nappies off ebay. When i was looking i couldnt find any info on them so i'm hoping i'll help someone out. I bought 20 for $168 and an extra 20 soakers for $60ish. which from my looking is very cheap. these are OSFM pocket nappies with a PUL outer. They come in 10 bright colours with adjustable snaps for the rise and the waist. And so far they are working a treat, now i am new to cloth and these are my first nappies so i have no comparison, but for me they are working, my DD is a heavy wetter so i need 2 inserts for day and 3 for night (yes they last all night) they are easily washed and i dont get much leaking only if she has a suprise long nap or DH forgets a change :) my DD is a petit 9 month old and she fits the nappies on the medium rise setting, i feel they will fit a newborn(find out in 6 weeks) the only problem i have with the nappies is the waist band ends sometimes fall out from the leg holes. i think this is because my DD is still on the smaller waist setting (leaving extra flaps) and she is walking and running around not really a huge problem it just looks a bit funny lol:ecomcity:

now i need some advice from some of you cloth mummies, i'v found that the soakers are holding on to the wee smell, any tips on how to get rid of it thanks guys :)

hope someone gets some help deciding from this lol i'll never go back to disposables.:)

I haven't posted in this thread before but often check it out for MCN tips. Just had to respond to this as my parcel delivery guy is DH so yep I am very *nice* to him and yep I get get excellent service :D unfortunately there is no hiding how many MCN's I just bought though

I had DS1 in part time cloth for about 1 year and then gave up when DS2 came along, too much washing as it was especially in winter but now DS1 is TT'd I have DS2 in cloth, I didn't realise how much I missed MCNs, especially getting new ones
I still have him in sposies for naps and night time and DH insists on using sposies when he looks after him when I am at work but rest of the time it's yummy cloth all the way.
My current faves are Berry Plush, what a gorgeous nappy and very good too, lasts about 3-4 hours, though often DS decides the soft white minky is the perfect place to do a big poo as soon as he has it on. I also bought some Happy Babes pockets recently, only $20 each and they are great, nearly identical to Haute Pockets which I also love, just the inserts don't snap together.

Whizzkidz having a restocking on Thursday night. i would love to have another night nappy... but i definitely don't need anymore!

Strip wash - I haven't done one yet, ever (15 months). I'm so lazy. I should put my pockets through a strip wash, I think they've lost their absorbency a bit over time.

SmileyBJ - hmm I don't know if its from lack of sun, I never really found sun helps LOTS with smell, but I found longer rinse cycles helped, and a bit of presoaking in a bucket of water. OR maybe your bucket is a bit stinky? Or maybe your bub has really concentrated wee lately, since they never did that before...?

SmileyBJ
26-05-2009, 19:25
Sparrowgirl- I put them on a longer wash this morning, then had them in the sun and wind all day. There smelling much better, when i took his nappy off 2day though i noticed his wee was quite yellow... :( i thought that usually ment dehydrated but his drinking quite alot and all his bottles etc hope his not unwell. As you said though his wee is probably really concentrated which is making the smell...

I got my bonninbuns this morning! It is so beautiful!! Really wel made and so soft, it's a shame it will be used at night time when no one will get to see it. I washed it this morning, but we have a cloudy/rainy day today, so might take a couple of days before it's dry enough to try out. Has anyone tried theirs yet?

I used the sandman nappy I got in a swap last night (thanks purplebird:wave:) and it worked well, the inside was a little bit wet in the morning though, but not enough to make DS' skin get red. yay, we are officially full time cloth now with both boys!!!:smiliedance:

1 x Eco Bubs
1 x Fluffy Bubs

Have to do a wash tonight so will add them in as well.

jimmysmummy
28-05-2009, 19:00
Rumparooz are pretty cool. I won one in the GDUNH.:smiliedance:

They're very similar to Bumgenius, only with cute prints and these cool inner gussets to keep in messes.

They also have 4 snap positions instead of 3 so you can make them really tiny.

jotsmum
28-05-2009, 20:54
I love my rumparooz. The extra gusset things hold in all the poos and they have a 'poo scoop' at the back so the poo shouldn't shoot up the babies back. The inserts are poppered together so they don't bunch up and they come in great colours - I haven't got any prints but they look quite cool.

They would be really good for a newborn (the fourth setting is tiny) but dd is on the second setting now at 8 months and 7kg.

Im sorry cloth mum but goodluck with those nappies! cotton jersey is not very absorbent at all and in the pocket nappy it says to insert a face washer for absorbancy????? ummm no, that wouldnt work at all! When looking for some nappies to replace these ones please try to find ones with bamboo materials as these are Highly absorbent where cotton is not.
There is heaps of information about great cloth nappies in this section of the forum but I hope you are not too dissapointed with your purchase and dont use cloth again.

clothmum - they look good, glad they are working well for you. I would think they would work much the same as terry flats - which I used on my oldest 2 girls without any problems. MCN are expensive and these look like a great alternative if you can't afford bamboo - which I couldn't have done with my first 2 bubs. I would have loved something like this as the biggest hassle I found with terry flats was folding them! I like my mcn's because I can quickly snap them together and don't have to sit and fold them!

If you do find they are not as absorbant as you would like you could buy some bamboo boosters to put in them instead of using a facewasher.

he typically wakes at 5 completely soaked and i can never get him back to sleep after i've changed him. i'm at my wit's end!!!!!!!! :hair:

Ok Ladies ... I'm hoping clothmum is just excited about finding some nappies that have worked for her and is sharing the information with us.

So lets just welcome her to BubHub and she'll soon see what a wonderful bunch of clothies we are and we can share lots more fluffy knowledge with her.

kotakai -
Anyone spotted a cute nappy and dress set? I have seen t-shirts/singlets & nappies but I would love a dress & matching MCN.

Baby bullfrogs have some lovely Amy Butler fabric AI2's with matching singlets or dresses .

Yay got my fluffy mail from wild child! I can't wait to put it on... though I'm temped just to put it on for show for a little bit! DH said "that's a nappy? what's with all those crystal things on it?" and i said "that's her BLING!"

Kotokai congrats on your new bundle! soo cute!

Hi Jasmine173! I'm not sure if you want to try cloth nappies, but if you do just let us know (it's hard to tell with your post because I saw you use huggies at night). If you'd like to have a cloth solution to your problem post again and we'll make some suggestions for you! Otherwise you could try putting on a slightly larger size huggie over the other nappy and see how that goes...?

Readytogo, grats on the 2 CGRs! I only have the one I got from the expo (and I went there specially coz MJ410 said she got one from there!) and i like the double layers and double snaps - no wing droop at all!

I have six haute pokets multifits that I bought off ebay.

I bought the first five and liked them (they worked well), so when I saw someone else selling another, I picked it up also.

The problem is the sixth one is smaller than the other five, so it only seems to fit my baby properly with the rise adjustment undone (whereas I have it at the smallest setting on the others). Also, both the (presumably microfleece) inner and the microfibre absorbers of the new one are whiter and feel softer than the first five. And whilst the first five have the band printed directly on the back of the PUL, the sixth has a label sewn onto one of the wings. The washing instructions labels are the same, including the brand name in the description. I am wondering whether the new one is an older version, or a homemade immitation.

However, every time I give it another go on her, it leaks pretty much her whole wee. I'm really not sure what I can do with it. Any suggestions

i am not sure what they are like performance wise as I don't have any myself yet . I will get some to try when baby is 3-4 months old as they are supposed to fit best from that age onwards . And I am on a nappy ban at the moment:o.
One of the girls at work brought some and they look and feel really nice . She hasn't used them yet either as she is still pregnant too .
I think Teegzie on here has some so hopefully she will be able to tell us what they are like .:fingerscrossed:

Just on another note I had my last day of work yesterday :smiliedance: and my BBH Bamboo fitteds have arrived ( got those before nappy ban ) . I managed to get some of the old coloured ones through my BBH rep because they are still waiting on the backordered ones to arrive.

Ooh mundyc i'm glad you got some bamboo BBH I hear the waiting time on them and back order is HUUUUGE!

I noticed their hemp ones look different now from when I got them (which was only last year! Amazing how things change)

Tiera - umm one must be an older style or maybe the others are the older style! Strip wash the leaky one?

i just had a look on a nappy selling sight and had a look at the hautes, the labels appear on the wing next to the velcro, so i would say this new one is one of the newer ones?

Yes Kezza....it was already in the nappy. A great big square insert which gets folded into 3. My FB day ones had an insert too.

First night it leaked, but it had only been washed once so I didn't worry.

Second night, no leaks - on for 12+ hours

Third night - leak city:( after 3 washes.

Not giving up yet!!!!

you don't have to put anything in the pocket, but if you can fit the smaller insert down the pocket then do so, i do that now and just have the suedecloth insert folded over in half on top and find it works even better! but the trick is to have small hands to get it inside....says so on the website (thats how i found out)

I know, that was AGES ago!
It wasn't an order- I sent back 2 BG AIOs and a OSFA due to dodgy elastic. She said she could send me replacement V2 AIOs straight away, or I could wait until March and she would send me the new V3s. I doubt that they'll fit James when they arrive, but I'll save them for bub no.2!

My cheap WHAM AIOs arrived yesterday, two with flanellette lining (nice and soft) and one all cotton (inside feels just like a terry flat, so whilst fluffy now I expect it will get abbrasive with use).

They are pretty, but the first thing I notice is the 1mm PUL seems very flimsy. I wonder how waterproof it will be. And these do up with velcro, but no laundry tabs :( .

One other unfortunate thing is that they dont seem to fit my slight bub very well, probably made for chunkier babies.

Since they only have four layers of terry cotton as their absorbant core, I'm boosting them with a short snapin from a baby beehinds fitted. I'm hoping that piece of hemp or bamboo will increase their absorbancy significantly.

Even if they dont work for the baby, they should make good nappies for dolls; they are very pretty. The workmanship is excellent, pity she doesn't use better materials. I guess the old adage applies; you get what you pay for.

Hi everyone! I've just started buying MCN's as I figure, the earlier I start, the more I'll be able to get before bub arrives :)
I've got some BBH's - 2 OSFM minkies and 1 AIO small smooth. And 2 nappilicious AIO's which have cute pictures on them but that I don't really like at all, they're kind of rough and nasty. And one monkeydoodlez small AIO minky. It's really cute, but doesn't have all that much padding, so not sure how absorbent it will be. I've ordered some BBH hemp and bamboo fitteds and pul and wool covers, the bamboo ones are on backorder obviously, but hoppefully the rest will arrive later this week.
I've picked up some great suggestions from this thread though, I've got a list about as long as my arm, I'd like to pick up one of each just to see what they're like!
One question, what on earth is the stocking thing you guys are talking about? I'm guessing it's a special that you can get only at a certain time, and a certain number or something, but what website is this on??!!

sweetseven
03-06-2009, 13:52
I am of the understanding that it is with regard to when new stock is added to an online store that is almost always soldout.

That's my guess.

SmileyBJ
03-06-2009, 13:59
mummarella- thankyou plenty!! :)

question- Is it possible to get PUL covers which are made with snaps instead of velcro?? If so where abouts or what brands lol.

Harriet
03-06-2009, 15:27
Yes a stocking is where a popular nappy - usually a WAHM brand - adds stock to their online store. A good example is Fluffybubs - if you look at their website you will see that there is photos but no stock. There was a preview and then stocking a couple of weeks ago....the buying became available at 8.30pm, and the nappies were gone literally within minutes. I think there were 90 something shoppers online!:D

To find out about stockings, you can register for their newsletters to be emailed to you.

Others sell stock via a lottery, and Wild Child are now putting up random Blings (a highly sought-after nappy) so it's just a matter ofv checking their website frequently. This method of buying nappies is called hyena-ing:D

I only worked all this out quite recently:ecomcity:

I'm umming and ahhing over this months recession buster pack. I was planning to focus on more fancy nappies from now on, but there are some nappy brands included that I don't have yet. I don't really need another GK or BBH though

Ohh the matching nappies and dresses are so cute!!

I still haven't bought any fluffy mail because I just can't decide what to buy . I am feeling a little disheartened because I bought 3 ittis and they are my first AIO and we had a major pooplosion the other night. DD had already had 6 changes of clothes because she vomits so much and then to have my new nappy leak was the last straw. I have now decided that they will have to be an at home nappy until DD is on solids. I felt a bit better yesterday though because I got 3 hours out of one without any leaks when DD slept longer than I expected.

I really wanted to try a Magic-all but don't really want to risk it just yet, might wait a few months. I might just stick with the BBH bamboo for now.

I am also starting to toy with the idea of trying night nappies but I am quite nervous about that. I guess I should just sort out my day stash first.

What is you favourite cover (any type)? I am thinking that if I can't experiment with nappies that I might pick a few different type covers.

Ok I said that about last week.

I got it, washed it a couple of times and put it on DD.

It didn't leak, the lining REPELLED the wee.
Poor DD was horrified, it came out the sides and when I took it off, the nappy wasn't even damp.

I'll be washing it a dozen or so (ok maybe not that many) before trying it again I think!

I much prefer the Baby Kanga to the Haute so far.
