I'm interested in buying a portacot soon and am wondering if people have any recommendations or brands to steer clear of?

Hi there!

Well, if you want to go affordable, we got a great one from target for $70. It is by Baby Club (Target's own baby brand). It is fairly basic, but it has wheels and packs up quite neatly. Had it on a few trips now and not had a worry. It does not come with a bassinet (higher mattress) feature, but we bought it when our daughter was a bit older anyway.

We bought my in laws a good one from Babies Galore but I cannot remember the name. Not very helpful there I know, but it had the bassinet feature which was great for when our baby stayed over when she was very young. That one was $140. But it is one of the standard stock ones from Babies Galore.

But that's what we have found good value and quality. :)

Hi -we looked at many a portacot in our search and one of the things that helped us decide was the CHOICE guide to baby products. (www.choice.com.au) It tells you which ones to steer clear of in terms of finger entrapments and other dodgy bits but also the features each have and comparisions. You can subscribe or other articles are free to view.

If you check it out and decide you would like to read the whole report - I am happy for you to email and I can send it to you as an attachment

We actually bought one from babies galore in the end - it wasn't the cheapest and it wasn't the most expensive - somewhere midrange - just had to make sure it was safe.

Happy shopping :)

we got our porta cot from this great little shop called Twinkle Tots(243-245 High St Northcote ph. 94822687). it is only asmall shop, but heaps of stock jam packed in - best range i have ever seen, wish i had have known about them when we were setting up!). staff were extreemely helpful and all cots were a great price. we ended up with a valco for $110, rrp $190! from memory starting price was about $70. they also sell the bassinette part seperately.

good luck :)

also all their cots meet aust safety standards - none of these dodgy brands that you have never heard of!
