I'm hoping someone out there can help me!

My DD has had nappy rash on and off for about 2 months now :(. I feel so so sorry for the poor thing, and I feel like I have tried everything (obviously not or it would be fixed). I have been back and forwards to the doctors and am finding them very little help quite frankly.

Here is what I have tried:
- Nearly every brand of nappy rash cream I could find
- Vaseline
- Two different (different active ingredient) broad sprectrum antifungals - also Dactozin
- Eliminiating acidic food from her diet
- LOTS of nappy free time. We have wooden floor boards so this is easy
- Sunlight
- She is in MCNs which I have strip washed and tried several different sensitive detergents

The only thing that works is a low grade steriod cream which I hate using. As soon as I stop applying it, the rash comes back.

Any ideas anyone? I have another appointment with the doc this afternoon. I really want to get on top of this, I feel so sorry for her.

Thanks for reading if you got this far!

Oh I should also add that disposables have always irritated her skin, so they are a no-go, and up until a couple of months ago, the MCNs had largely been fine.

Try putting some bicarbinate soda in her bathwater :)

Hi, I was at the docs last week for this too, and they gave me an awesome hint -

Get some Mylanta from the chemist and apply at every nappy change with cotton wool. It neutralizes the acid and take the burn out instantly. I used this in conjuction with a steroid cream for 2 days and its gone! Also lots of powder and air.

Good luck!

Try putting some bicarbinate soda in her bathwater :)

In addition to this, pop some corflour on her behind....

-Aloe Vera is great- either get a plant, cut and rub on her bottom, or buy some pure aloe gel....

-Bust open a Vitamin E capsule and rub it on her bottom

-Mixed 3tbles spoons of cornflour to 1 tea bag of chamomile tea...

What about Paw Paw ointment? I've never used it for nappy rash but it cleared up a rash my DD had on her foot so maybe worth a shot? I also second the Aloe vera freshly cut, it's great for the skin.

Good Luck, hope you find something that works soon.

This reply might be too late for you but thought I'd post anyway as it might help someone!

We have been battling a nasty nappy rash for 2 weeks on our 1 yr old. We also use cloth and have never had any problems before, I used cloth for my older 2 DD's and they never had a rash like this.

After a week of trying varous creams - pawpaw included, I went to the chemist and they recomended Daktozin. I had been applying it for a week and the rash wasn't getting any better. Yesterday morning I took her to the CHN and she confirmed it was thrush, she said that as the daktozin hadn't made any difference to try a different anti-fungal. She also said to make sure she was eating lots of yoghurt.

Back to the chemist and I got some Clonea Antifungal Skin Cream. I started using it around lunch time yesterday and this morning the rash is looking heaps better. I have also been giving her yoghurt after every meal. Both the chemist and CHN said to make sure we keep applying the cream for a week after the rash has gone.

After a very red/raw bottom for nearly 2 weeks I am so pleased that it is finally clearing up. Also the clonea is much easier to apply - it just rubs in unlike the Daktozin which is zinc based and sticks to everything!

Anyway just thought I'd share what has finally worked for us!

no other cream would work on my 5 kids butts except Amolin.(chemist and supermarket). i apply it at every nappy regardless of there being redness or not..

its a good barrier cream as well as healing and soothing.

worked every time here.

Yep, I tried cornflour and amolin, bepanthen too. Plus my trusty old Botty Butter that I have always sworn by! Bicarb in the bath did help sooth it and it always looked a bit better after some nappy free time. I don't use commercial wipes just a soft cloth and some water. We stopped using all soaps etc in the bath too. Nothing worked until we went on to the antifungal and yoghurt.

I started off with sudocrem with DD. It didn't seem to agree with her and her nappy rash became pretty bad. GP suggested Daktozin...didn't work, so back to GP. Turned out that it was zinc that wasn't agreeing with her skin. Read up on the net about papaw ointment...never used anything else from that day onwards. Papaw ointment is a real lifesaver.

Yep, my DS had a nasty rash for about 6 weeks which I thought was nappy rash too & found out it was thrush. After treatment with daktarin it has all cleared up.
