Boof who is now 4 & a bit yrs old has taken to wetting the bed at least once a nite.

He had been nite trained for a number of months with no issues at all.

We have had trouble getting him this far in that he only full TT just before Christmas & that was a struggle because he isnt fazed being wet.

So for the last few months as I have said there have been no issues at all & it was his choice to wear undies to bed & it all went smoothly. He would wake in the nite however many times & use the toilet no dramas.

Now every single nite he is wetting the bed at least once, often screaming & crying before it happens but even us going in & pre-emptively getting him up to go will lead to him screaming & crying which in turn has seen him now stand & wet himself at the end of his bed, beside it, in the doorway & even at the bathroom door.

He is awake but just screams & tells us he doesnt want to go

He talks to us after we change him & the bed or mop up the spills & we have asked him whether he has had a scary dream ... His tummy hurts ... He is cold ... He is sore or uncomfortable around his penis etc ...

All with the answer of no & that he is fine.

What is going on ... I am at the end of my tether ...

We have stopped him having drinks an hour before bed, making him use the toilet before bed & as I said even going in & trying to get him to use the toilet before we think it may happen ... It doesnt matter as it still does !

They arent small amounts either they are full bladder loss & not even the layers of towels etc or matress protectors we are using help !

I am in the process of making some that I hope catch more because im not sure how much more the poor mattress can take !!!! Plus I am dreading the rest of the week as its meant to rain so I cant rely on the sun to dry it !!!!!

Is this normal ?????

No idea. I'd put him back in nappies.
E still wakes up with a soaked nappy every morning so we haven't ventured in to the night training yet.....secretly I'm hoping she waits until she can go the whole night without having to go to the toilet.

could he be sleeping deeper, like enjoying his dreams so much he doesn't want to get up? I don't know, that probably sounds silly, just the first thing that popped into my head. Will he let you put some cloth training pants on him? so they are like undies but hold a bit more, at least it will save you cleaning some of the mess.
It's quite common for night bedwetting to go on for years and years. I know someone who is 12 that still has issues with it. But the fact that he had it all worked out for a few months and has now suddenly regressed is odd. Maybe run it past his Dr next time you go in?

Sorry I can't be of more help, it must be so frustrating and exhausting:hugs:

He wont have a bar of nappies, pull ups or the likes ...

Which I am happy about being how he classed them as part of himself for so long. Being without them for so long has made him realise he is now a 'big boy' & doesnt need them iykwim.

I hoped the same C !!! Didnt push it because I knew that still wetting over the age of 5yrs was within the realms of normal so figured he would just wait until he could sleep right through but nope he chose to after a few weeks of being dry & was only getting up once through the nite up until the last few weeks !!!

Jo - I think it might be a sleeping deeper issue either that or he does have a UTI that isnt 'hurting' iykwim ....

Gotta take them to the doctor I think tomorrow being that G is getting worse & struggling to breath when asleep so will ask her then !

This has happened to us with both the boys as soon as the weather has started getting colder .. I reckon its the cold or he is getting into a deep sleep..

Unfortunately for us its just been a fight through each winter (first cold season only, ie: samuel had issues last cold season this time he has been fine.. this cold season Ethan is having the issues)

But perhaps its something else too hun... no suggestions other than to hang in there... change and get back into bed and do your best to not go insane :o

Have a spare doona already with a cover on it ready to go.. and get one of those padded sleep mats that you pop under their bums.. to save changing sheets all the time...

:hugs:

My DD had a very similar story and it ended up being the start of an upper UTI. I didn't think of that as she had no other symptoms (she has previously had a number of lower UTI's) but apparently upper UTI's begin with loss of control and then other symptoms follow. So maybe keep an eye on it or take a sample to your doc. As soon as she started the anti biotics the bed wetting stopped again.

Not sure if this applies to boys as well though??

Cobey was going great guns on the toilet front.. but as soon as the weather got colder he's been forcing me to do the laundry at least once a week, and this week he's wet the bed twice. :/

He got close last night but he woke up and screamed for me.. thankfully.. but normally he doesn't even notice until the morning and he's saturated (then he strips off and does a big wee in the toilet)

Oh my, thankyou so much. Here I thought I was alone. DS1 who will be 5 in October was night trained for 1.5mths and then just the last 3 weeks he started wetting the bed again. I have just thought bugger it, its a phase he will get out of it. I was getting sick of doing the washing, so once he goes to sleep at night time I put a nappy on him. He usually only does the one pee. His last drink at night is an hour before he goes to bed. He goes to the toilet and does a pee before he goes to bed.
But DS2 (2.5yrs) on the other hand is doing really well he hasn't had an accident in so long, they were both night trained together. If DS2 needs to do a pee, he will wake up and go, but DS1 is a much heavier sleeper. We struggled to get DS1 TT he was just over 3yrs.

Glad well glad as one can be in this situation im not alone after all :hugs::hugs:

Yep I think the weather is playing havoc plus now that I think about it when this started a few weeks back was when he got his first cold of the season ! And he has another atm !

I managed to get to him when he started screaming straight up last nite & asked him about it & he said " mummy I need to wee " so we got him to the toilet no worries ! He then pulled a face & I asked him again whether his penis hurt & he said no but I asked about his tummy or the likes & he said he does have some pain when he wee's but its like its his bladder from what I can gather !

So I am flushing his system today because he seems a lot happier because of course of all the days my kids do need to see the g.p she is off sick herself :hair: If things get bad enough I will take him to the medical centre over the weekend ... Will probably be taking G at this rate anyways !

Wahoo 2 nights dry with DS1 now. One I put a nappy on him and last night he refused to wear a nappy. And he stayed dry. I praised him when he woke up too. :)

Well Boof still refuses to use a nappy or pull & I am happy about that really cause getting him TT has been a long slow process & I am glad he isnt willing to go back there !

I made up two special mats the other day that have fleece on top then towelling & a waterproof layer so that it sits on top of his sheets so I am not changing sheets all the time !

Since we have been using them we havent had an issue

 Of COURSE you haven't had an issue, but if you do, it'll be okay! :p
