forgive me if this is written elsewhere, but i just have a few questions in regards to night nappy-ing! oliver has been in cloth part-time since birth, and i've recently started him in cloth overnight (on our way to full time!), but am in need of some tips!

1. Wool Covers. I have BBH ones, as yet washed but un-lanolinised, i have spray and tube lanolin, which is better/prefered?
How do I best use wool covers?

2. The Nappy. I have BBH OSFM in both bamboo and hemp. at the moment i'm using a bamboo nappy with both boosters in, the larger folded in two at the front and it lasts him about 7 ish hours (about 10 til 5), is the okay/good/below par?
Are there better night nappies to use?

3. The 'Style'. What is (in your opinion) the best way to put on such a nappy for optimal usage?

4. other stuff! any other useful tips/tricks/knowledge! lol

thanks!
love emma.

oh, while i'm at it, does anyone have a favourite wet bag??

hehe thanks :D

I can't help with the night nappy question as I am currently using Bum Genius with bamboo inserts - I know it is PUL but I can't figure night nappies out yet so I will be watching this thread.

I have two favourite wet bags one is a leslie boutique one - v pretty and my functional one (which will go with dd to childcare) is a royal blue monky doodlez one.

I use the BBH fitted nappies for night and I use both inserts, with theshort one snapped at the front (I don't need to fold the front over to reduce the rise so I have the extra row of snaps) and the longest one snapped at the back and folded so there is more at the front, as Alice is a tummy sleeper. I also use the BBH bamboo fold up or another booster (my GKs ones mainly since I don't use the GKs nappies atm) to get her through the night. All that sees her through from 6-7pm to 6-7am, sometimes later if I ignore her so I get more sleep! :o

I only have a BBH wetbag. The ugly purplish colured one. :( I want a leslie's boutique one!

I do the same. BBH bamboo fitted, with both snap in boosters. I have some of the extra fold up booster things but haven't needed them.

I just lanolised with a tube of lanosinoh. Didn't know you could get a spray.

I just hang the wool cover on the line the next day.

The only time I had a leak was when I was using a small wool cover. I've now changed to a bigger one and had no problems.

apparently they've changed the design of the BBH wool cover in the last 6 months, and I've got the older ones.

I also have the purple BBH wet bag, but would like a slightly bigger one for daycare and generally. It's a bit smelly though as I accidentally left wet nappies in it overnight. Is there any nice way to deodorise the bags? I left it to air but it still smells a bit like urine.

i tried a large bbh wool cover and bbb (with both inserts and a night booster) and found the large was too small to fit over the bbb

i now use fluffy bubs dreams...its a pocket night nappy with windpro fleece (which works the same way as wool but you don't lanolise it). it is very easy to use, it comes with an insert and a snap on booster topped with microchamois print fleece.

a good night nappy is one that will see you through a whole night...so 12 hours is pretty average

my wetbag is a plain magenta coloured jamtots one

smelly wetbags - put it in the wash with your other nappies :)

I like what Teegzie does with her nappy. I use actual night nappies, but if you can get away with what you have, the cheaper option is of course to do that.

I put more at the front of my nappy because my daughter sleeps on her tummy. Sometimes I find the front is saturated but the top of the back is almost dry.

I like to use fleece rather than wool. I like using flongies as covers, I just find them easier to wash than wool, none of this lanolising stuff (I'm just super lazy!)

I have a pair of wool soakers for over Alice's night nappy, but DP broke the waist band :( so I need to fix it!
I use Tots Bots fleece covers (the older style) over the night nappies at the moment. Even with such big covers I find the BBB still sticks out a bit. Maily at the legs where the frill bit is (I spend ages tucking it in while Alice runs around before bed!). I've only got a medium BBH wool cover but that would be miles to small for the bulky night nappies we use, and I'm sure a large one wouldn't cover them either!

I've got some FB Dreams coming as well as a Bonnibuns night nappy. Hopefully between them there will be somthing that works well for us.

I use BBH bamboo fitteds with the large old style BBH wool cover overnight and a fleece liner. That lasts around 12 hours. My bubs is only 5.9kg and I find to get all of the BBH bamboo fitted into the wool cover I needed to get the large one. Not sure what I will be doing when she gets bigger....

I also use FB dreams & Bonnibuns night nappies. These don't require a cover & I prefer that.

My DS sleeps all night & I haven't had any leakage probs yet.

I was going to add with the smelly wetbag, after you've washed it, hang it out inside out & let the sun get to it.

I have georgous sandman night nappies from sustainable hemp and they are fantastic. You do need a cover (just in my DD case) and Im currently using a BBH pul untill my wool soakers arrive.
I also use BBH bamboo with the two inserts and a cover with no leaks or we use a Greenkids with a bamboo insert plus an microfiber insert or bamboo booster.
DD is 6mo amd 10kg

Quick Q for you macsum2, Have you ever had any issues with your Bonnibuns night nappies leaking out the top? Alice is a tummy sleeper and she was in her Bonnibuns night nappy last night (after pooping in her FB Dream 5 mins after it was on :hissy:) and she woke at 3am with all her tummy and bedding wet. :( I'm wondering if I just haven't prewashed it enough or didn't fit it tight enough at the waist? WDYT?

Hey Teegzie, The only time i had a leak from it was the first time i used them and i had only prewashed them once! I then washed them about 3 times just to make sure it would be absorbent enough and have never had a problem since! I always make sure that it fits snuggly around little she's waist (no gaping or gaps) My DH has been known to not do it up tight enough and its run straight out the top cause she's a tummy sleeper.. Wasnt the nappies fault though!! Dont forget flannellette can cause wicking.. HTH

I think you're right I just hadn't prewashed enough or put it on too loosely. I've thrown it in the wash again and will do 1 or 2 more washes to see if I can get it more absorbent. It is a great nappy and if I can get it working for us will be so much easier than fitteds and covers!

I LOVE my BBH Bamboo nappies for night time. I use both inserts, the long one folded so the most layers are where it's needed most, and use a fleece cover over the top. :yelclap:

I love our new fluffy bubs dreams, it is just soo good! After 12 hours last night, DS1 was dry this morning and there was no red on his skin at all, he used to get rashes all the time from wearing his BBBs at night. I'm so happy we won't have to buy disposables anymore:D I also just got a sandman night nappy and am waiting for a bonnibuns so we should be covered. DS2 wears a BBB with a wool cover now and it's great for him.:)

:iagree:
DS was a super-pee-er and these were the only ones that would last the night. I love sandmans!! I use shorties/longies over the top which get lanolised with the tube, and topped up with the spray cause it smells nice :D

I found the tummy pad on the iish-fly nights also made them a good choice when I wanted an AI2 night nappy

Does anyone know whether a bbh magic all nappy using the 2 boosters/inserts + a cover would last all night??

kezzaskids
26-05-2009, 08:37
do you mean the bamboo with a cover? In that case yes!....... You dont need to put a cover on a magicall? Sorry if I misunderstood!

SmileyBJ
26-05-2009, 08:48
Nope, a bbh magic all (AI1 i think)... I only thought about putting a cover cause i thought it might be extra prevention for leaking... :o even though it doesn't usually need a cover.

borntobemummy

we've used magicalls with success overnight, but I wouldn't do it all the time because they do get very wet and their skin tends to get moist.

ok I get ya :) Um in a dire situation I would do it but unless it was unavoidable I wouldnt put on a nappy that would require 2 covers to keep clothing dry because generally it would mean it isnt absorbent enough to be used that long.

How old is your bub smileyBJ? For my 6mo I use a greenkids with 1 bamboo insert plus either a microfiber or bamboo booster or a BBH bamboo with the inserts and a pul cover as my woolies are still on the way. I have only just now got 2 sandman night nappies that I had on layby and they really dont as yet make any difference as I hadnt had a leak using the other versions......

I love Sandmans with a wool soaker cover. I also love Krap Katchers - don't need a cover and hold the wee smell very well.

i tend to lanolise with a scented spray :)

How old is your bub smileyBJ?

His 10 months. Im beginning to think I should just stick with disposables through the night, although he leaks right through them aswell...

NCB - I am curious too about the MandyMac Purple Nights! Seems like everyone in this forum either use BBH, FluffyBubs, Sandmans, Wildchild or Bonnibuns for night nappy. But the MandyMac sounds like an awesome one (22 layers!!!)
If you decide to try the Mandy Mac please let us know!

Would love to hear how you go with it once you have tried them on your little one.
I am wondering if the bamboo material becomes very stiff when it's wet.
I am not a big fan of the BBH Bamboo fitted because it feels so stiff, it's like I have put DS in a cast! The Itti's on the other hand, is relatively soft. So I guess it depends on the bamboo material that they use?

i put my bamboo fitteds and inserts in the dryer every now and then to soften it up!
