I am a little confused with what happened to me last month. From what I understand you ovulate fourteen days before the first day of your next period??

So last month i was using ovulation predictor strips which said that when they are positive you will ovutate in the next 24 to 36 hours. I was doing them every day at 3.30 from around day 10. On day thirteen I got a positive and again on day 14 then on day fifteen it was negative again. So I think I must have ovulated on day 14 which makes sense as I normally have a 28 day cycle ( although it has occasionaly been a bit longer)

So when my period didn't arrive by day 30 i was starting to get excited and did a test which showed negative. I looked at the test again about an hour later and it showed a very faint positive. I did a few more tests over the course of the next day and the same thing continued to happen. On day 32 I did a test first thing which showed negative and never got any faint line and then i got my period.

So what happened?? Did I work out the incorrect ovulation dates? Even if i ovulated on day fifteen I still shoud have got my period on day 29.

I am confused and want to make sure we get it right this month......

Hi Tatty,
It sounds like you are “doing the right thing”. However it is not a failsafe rule that every woman ovulates 14 days before the start of the previous period.

Charting your cycle is the best way to find out more about when exactly you are ovulating. Although ovulation kits may be useful they can end up being a very expensive exercise. Besides, charting will give you much more information and you will be able to pick up the likelihood of a pregnancy more easily.
