how tall is too tall

DS turns eight months on the 25th of jun. he currently stands at 80cm. is this too tall?? he was big when he was born (57cm, 9lb 8oz) but he just seems to shoot up like a weed!! works out to about 3cm a month. :eek:

can this be damaging his joints or bone development? does this mean he has bad growing pains, and how do i help him if he has them?? what's normal for babies?? anyone else have one around the same age and can tell me where he supposed to be?? :confused:

i know i am being a paranoid mummy, but i worry about the little poo. :(

How tall are the men in your family? Genetics play a lot.

Ive always been told that Wyatt was too tall from CHN's. But his father is 6"3 and his uncles and grandfathers are well over 6 foot. Heck, his second cousins are 6"5 and 6"6!!

Try not to worry too much about it. You can always speak to your Dr about it.

Have a look at the growth charts in the back of his blue book. If his weight, height and head circ are all in roughly the same percentile, he is fine.
I also agree with the genetics side. If the men in your family or your DH's family are tall, then that will play a part.

I've just checked my boys blue books, they were both 78cm at 8mths, tall for their age, but not tall for them if you KWIM.

I agree that genetics play a huge roll in the development of ur child.

Ur DS does sound tall but if the other men in ur family are tall its understandable.

My DS is mini! Hes 16months and only 78cm. Im 5"8 and DF is 5"10 so its normal he's fairly short atm.

i'm 5ft 10, and one of the shorter people in my family so i knew he'd be a tall person but i guess i thought that they started getting tall later in life. :rolleyes:

i wasn't expecting him to grow so quickly.............:)

guess i don't know much about kids..........:o

He will sure be a big boy when he is done growing. My 8yr was an average 55cm at birth. He is now 145cm tall. Another 20cm and he will be the same height as me. :eek:

hubby and I are average height but my brothers are over 6ft and one of hubby's bros is fairly tall, Thomas was 75cm tall at 6 months old! But not lanky at all, he's going to be a tall bloke, & built like a brick $h!t house! :D

Hubby's so proud, 3 of his mates have bubs who are just puddings :o whereas Tom's always had defined muscle! :thumbsup:

Sounds like he's totally normal.... my 6 year old boy wears 8 year old clothes he is so huge (havent measured him in a while though). but my husband is 6foot3 and was tall very early in his life, so I have never worried about my boy as he is growing in an identical manner to what his dad did - apart from his dad having brown eyes and my son having my blue eyes, he really is his dad's mini-me :D

we did that calculation (cant remember if off the top of my head) where you measure them at age 3 (or is it 2?) and work out how tall they will eventually get, and (as it identically did when they calculated for my DH at the same age) it predicted that he will be 7foot3 :eek: ! But seeing that my DH didnt get that tall, I'm not too worried about our boy....
