Okay, so my room mates are moving out within the next 2 weeks. I desperately need to find someone to move in, if only for the rest of the lease (about 5-6 months). The rent is $620 a fortnight and no matter how I budget, my income just can't cover all expenses Unless I get a minimum of 20 hours a week from work. This isnt always possible, as I'm only casual, I can't expect this to happen. Even if they do manage to give me 20 hours, I have to allow for those days/nights when DS or myself might be sick, or anything like that. Even with 20 hours a week, it only leaves me $100 a week for food, groceries, childcare and anything else (nappies, wipes). I'm waiting on a reply back from a job I interviewed for recently, though they said it would take 2-3 weeks. I'm also in the middle of my Army application and awaiting further action there. I'm concerned about advertising as I'm unsure if I could have a stranger move in with me..I have trust issues.=/ I have no friends who can move in or family. I'm not sure what to do..any ideas? -Breaking lease is an option, however I'm not sure if it's a very good one as it would require repainting alot of walls, carpet cleaning, pest control and all the stuff you need to do when vacating a rental.=S

Have you ever considered Part Time army reserves? It might leave you in good stead with an army application as well?

holy thats a lot of rent to have to pay on ur own. If u have no other choice maybe just run an ad for people to move in.. Maybe get ur mum or a mate to help you interview prospective tenants.. You never know u could meet a really nice single mum with a little one similar aged to urs..
Have a look at the space 4 website?

Wow, good on you for all the things you are doing! I'm impressed and I really hope get into the Army or whichever you would like the most.
I agree with SPC, maybe just take a chance, say you only want women (for the trust issue) and maybe even say that you would take a mum and child.
Do you have anything you can sell on eBay in the meantime? Kids toys that the little one no longer uses?
Good luck, I have a feeling everything will work out :hugs:

I don't have much advice but I can say currently I am able to bring in $50-100 p/w on ebay just selling cr_a_p I have. I just sold my ex husbands simpsons franklin mint plates for $100+ :smiliedance:.
:hugs: hope it works out for you.

Do you live near any tafe's or university's.?
You could go down there and see where you could advertise for a student to have a room, female only?

Thanks heaps for all the advice, I am applying part-time for the Army for now, I plan to take the Tax office job as well, as it's a 1 year contract (casual), that will help me for when I want to apply for Admin work full time in the Army.
I have alot of stuff sitting there waiting to sell, I decided to take it to the markets (when I get a chance) as I tend to lose money on ebay.=S
Advertising at the local TAFE seems like a good idea, thanks for that!
I have my concerns about getting a stranger in, I mean a student seems safe enough, however they might not tolerate a toddler.=/
And a single mum would be fantastic, however I only have 1 room spare...

You could still get a single mother in... if you're willing to have your kids share, or the mother wants her child to sleep with her. If you advertised as having just one room available, a single mother might be okay with that... people who wanted more space wouldn't bother calling you.
Maybe a single mum-to-be would be a nice option too. To get herself out of home temporarily... I dunno?
I agree with Sassy, I'm sure there would be another single mother out there who 1 room might suit(ie co-sleeper, or pregnant and will share with the NB)
