My first thread! (well 2nd if you don't count introductions ;)).

Just a quick question.

Son's 11 months, and he's been a scratcher since birth. We cut his fingernails on a regular basis, and early on - even used the mitts (although he's grown out of them now).

But even now - when he gets tired, he'll scratch his face/ears/forehead to the point of bleeding.

Any tips on how to stop this?

Not really - just what you're already doing. Cut his fingernails on a regular basis (you could even try filing them with an emery board or a nail file to take the rough edges off). He's probably a little old for the mitts etc, maybe you could try putting a toy in his hand when he's getting tired to distract him from scratching his face.

I know when DD is tired, she tends to do this unconsciously - she rubs her eyes, and kind of scratches herself without meaning to. I think its just something that they grow out of.

Good luck!

DS is a scratcher also, on the side of his face he has a patch of dry skin (ezcema) but whenever he is tired, he scratches the cr*p out of it. I cut his nails on a regular basis and file them down, but somehow he still manages to scratch.

As Clarabelle said I try and distract him from doing this or I hold his hands (much to his disgust).

Sorry i'm not much help :o
