Hi NZ Mums - we are heading for New Zealand in October/early Nov this year for four weeks and taking the kids. The thing I am wondering is about clothing for my little ones.
A friend has just made the offer of a heap of Baby Gap winter gear for Miss 1 and Miss 2 to take to NZ but it looks to be really thick and warm, almost snow type gear. Pants, jackets and coats, a few jumpers and hats. Her kids wore these in the US last Winter so it's really warm/cosy gear. If I don't want it, she's going to Ebay it.

So...do I want it? How cold exactly will it be in October??
Thanks very much, all advice greatly appreciated!! :goodvibes:

Where are you going in NZ?? yep it'll make a huge difference!

I've camped in Queenstown over new year and had snow! Been up north, and its been more warm and muggy than Queensland!

South Island will still be cold at night, but then (annoyingly) could be very warm during the day, you are just as likely to have warm one day, freezing the next!

Not much help I know, but if you are planning to take the kids out at night, or anywhere near the sea in the south island, I'd make sure they have warm jackets to wear.

Hi  and thanks very much for your help :)

We will be on the North Island the whole four weeks. Renting a lovely house for the first week just outside of Auckland, then tripping around for two weeks and then the final week is being spent up in/at the Bay of Islands area in a beautiful house we've rented. We have four children including a 1yr old who hates the car and a 2yr old so we had to make it a fairly family minded holiday and allow some time to just be without continual tripping, otherwise we would have loved to have included the South Island as well....next time :fingerscrossed:
Ta for your advice :goodvibes:

Fist of all in October the wheather will be changeable so you will need a variance in clothing.

I do not think that ski type gear will be needed near auckland or Bay of Islands.

You may get down to a T shirt and jeans or occassionally shorts (because it is so changeable) but the general tempurature will be fairly low and it will be cool.
