DD has been toilet trained in the daytime for around a month now,but I've been too anxious to leave her nappy-free when going out.So she wears a nappy when going to playgroup, shopping, etc. When did you let your toddler go nappy free when going out after being toilet trained?Thanks........

I don't really remember exactly when it happened, but Hayley was 2 years old when she started using the potty on her own. She was 3 when she started going to the toilet though. As for leaving her nappy free, I think it was around 2.5 years or a bit younger when that happened. I let her go nappy free a few times before she was ready and she'd always wet her pants, I decided to wait until she told us she needed the toilet. When we were out and she'd say "poos" or "wees" thats when I thought about leaving her nappy free, but it didn't always work (she'd wet her pants).

I have tried with Skye a few times but she wets herself. She tells me she needs to do poos or wees AFTER shes already wet her pants.

We just jumped in feet first - after she'd been accident free for about a week we started going out without a nappy.

She was older than your DD when she toilet trained though, she was about 3.

We just asked her if she needed to go every half hour or so and sat her on the toilet whenever we went past one, regardless of what the answer was.

Also put her on the loo before you leave the house.

We didn't have any public accidents actually now that I think about it...but we asked alot and she'd get cranky - "no mama STOP ASKING ME!!"

From memory, Playgroup. I'd ask her every half hour (well, get her to sit on the toilet every half hour) and we just sort of went from there. Again DD was closer to three when she TT'd

 Same

DD is 3 this week ... and only just TT'd.

If I think there is not going to be access to a toilet, I will still sometimes put a pullup on her ... but playgroup, shopping etc we go with just a change of clothes  (though havent had an accident at the shops yet. Had 1 at playgroup though)

DD is 2 1/5 and has been in knickers during the day since about 21/22 months and at night for the last 2 months! I just went with it after a few weeks of no (well very few) accidents and her telling us she needed to go (before the event) and so I just figured I had to bite the bullet some time so it might as well be sooner rather than later! we only had a few accidents usually when we were on our way out after me asking a dozen times if she needed to go before we left only to decide just as we got to the car that she did infact need to go!
I had a portable potty in the car for the occassions when she needed to go urgently and we were too far from the loo. Just pack spare clothes and a few extra pairs of knickers - DD often just goes a tiny bit, enough to make her knickers damp but not to wet her shorts or skirt - then remembers she need to use the loo!
Good luck with your first outing whenever that may be - I suggest somewhere close ish to home and where you know that the loo is easily accessable!

if your child is TT at home then let your child wear undies out,you may have a few accidents but to me its better then a pull up.

take your little one to the toilet b4 you go out,if they dont go then take again when you get to where you are going, keep asking, when you go to the toilet when out use the baby's change room as they have little toilets n parents toilets in the same room,

put her in pull-ups and when she has gone out several times without peeing them, then progress to trainer pants. ... same deal.. once they are dry progress to knickers.

I think you need to bite the bullet and just start doing outings nappy free:D.
I too did what you do and would put DS in a nappy when going out.
I stopped and he had a few very public accidents but it didn't take long for him to stay dry.

Rememebr to pack spare socks and shoes as well as pants and undies. I never realised wee could go so far as to drench their shoes:laughing:

Be prepared and show her you're confident in her staying dry!

We trained DS in 4 hours using the 3 Day Potty Training method, and from day one we never went back to nappies or pull ups during the day (he just wears pull ups overnight).

He only wet his pants once when we went out on day 3, and pooed his pants twice during the first week (once at the library and once at mothers group), but since those three accidents he has never ever had an accident whilst out, and he's in undies all day (even for his day naps.

If your LO is fully trained at home then I would just bite the bullet and put her in undies when you go out. She may have an accident or two, but will soon get the idea that she must not do that.

When DS had those accidents I told you about, I didn't punish him, but in the case of the park and the library I took him home immediately so that he saw that if he wet/pooed his pants it was 'game over' and he had to go home (sort of a gentle punishment I suppose, to reinforce what he had learnt in the potty training).

lol, that took me by surprise too! Thankfully he only did that once!
