View Full Version : party food ideas?????
We are having our little boys christening next weekend and we are having about 30 people come back to our place for food and drinks afterwards. I am racking my braing trying to think of fairly simple but nice party food to provide.
It will be mostly adults but a few kids aswell. I don't mind doing all the cooking, as long as it can be done in advance and thrown in the freezer and reheated.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks:D
sausage rolls
little bacon & egg savouries
mini quiche savouries
muffins - sweet/savoury
little sandwiches
fruit kebabs
sushi
rice paper rolls
little red sausages
just a few ideas

You need to decide on an approach to it first...
casual? standing food? sitting food?
prepare ahead or prepare when it starts?
I love organising a party and I've done a few in my time.
Some different ideas....
a gourmet sausage sizzle .... mixed bread types, chutney/relishes, exotic sausages :D...easy to prepare at the time of lunch. Precede it with great nibblies.... warm creamy dips, hot savouries, miniature BLTs. And follow it with icecream sundaes where everyone assembles their own mixers. You can prepare the serves of icecream in advance and put in the freezer.
A party with just loads of finger food.... little savoury tarts, miniature quiches, spring rolls, home made miniature sausage rolls with chutney, hollowed out cob loaves filled with warm cheese, onion & bacon dip or spinach dip - there's a great Women's Weekly cookbook on finger food and a lot of it can be prepared ahead. Followed by pick up sweets...little baby meringue shells filled with cream & fruit ( I have an easy recipe, PM me), miniature caramel tarts, little mousses served in individual cups (you can get those little disposable wine cups that are a good size).
A curry and boutique beer feast...curries are easy to prepare ahead, are usually very simple recipes and reheat - they use cheap cuts of meat and smell divine .... borrow a rice cooker to keep the rice warm and ready for people to serve themselves. Ask your guests to bring a 6 pack of a boutique beer and everyone shares.
Brunch? Put eggs, chippolatas & bacon on the BBQ when you return. Have some croissants and jams there. Buy a couple of divine quiches from the cheesecake shop. Some fruit platters, apricot danishes (again, I have a really simple but prized recipe), fruit juices, tea & coffee and you're away. Easy to set up and really enjoyable.
Deli lunch... basket full of mixed rolls, make some crisp salads, a platter of mixed deli meats, some hot chickens, cheeses, pickles/mustards, avocadoes...everyone makes their own and loves it! Follow it with one of those comforting dessert buffets.... mudcakes, cheesecakes, trifle, sticky puddings.... everyone will sit & just enjoy the simplicity.
Enough from me! Wishing you a fantastic day!
Hi Camsma,
They're a golden oldie now but I have some terrific damper dip recipes... good for tiding people over until your other food comes out. Also great if you want to have mainly cold finger food but some warm stuff.
Let me know if you want the recipes!

There are some awesome cob loaf dips, and my ultimate sweet treat are Magic Bars. Anyone who loves chocolate and yummy sweet, SUPER EASY TO MAKE slices, then this is it. I'm luck if it lasts 24hrs in my place....mmmmmm i think i'll go make one now!!:chef:
