Hi All,

Is there anyone on here from Rockhampton??? I have just moved here from the Gold Coast and am keen to make new friends and link up with other mums to be.

Leedy :) :D

Hi Leedy,

I'm not an mum-to-be anymore - my DS was born last September - but I wanted to say welcome to Rockhampton!

Re: making friends. Make sure you go to antenatal classes if you get the chance. This is a good way of meeting other parents-to-be.

I also have a couple of suggestions for making friends post-bub...

Go to the 5-week "new babies" course at Community Health (Bolsover Street). This is a great way to meet people with bubs around the same age. And most groups continue to meet after the course ends - my lot still meet up once a fortnight.

Consider joining a playgroup. DS and I have been going to two playgroups since January and we just love them. Don't worry about going with a newborn - kids from 0 to 5 are welcome at most playgroups. Check out Queensland website - it lists all the local playgroups, just type 'rockhampton' into the search: http://www.playgroupaustralia.com.au/qld/

The public library has a "babies and books" session once a month on a Tuesday. Plus they have a general storytelling session each Thursday. I've been going to the weekly session. The first half hour is taken up with storytelling and the second half hour is taken up with a craft activity. People with smaller kids, like myself, usually sit around and chat while the craft is going on.

And finally, if you like going to the movies, the cinema (near Stocklands) has a "Babes in Arms" session on a Wednesday morning.

Hope this helps :)
