If your whole house is a disaster site, how do you quickly fix it for when guests arrive in say 20 minutes or so? What are your "musts" in getting the house done?

I always vacumn and do the dishes - DF just straightens the cushions.

(Apparently getting on Bubhub to ask for advice is not using said time constructively!)

lol how could bub hub not be constructive at a time like this!! heheh

I run around like a crazy woman...i get hubby to vac and i quickly wipe over the bathrooms..there usually always pretty tidy anyway...just you know the knickers/bras laying on the floor:o

shut the doors of the 'spare' rooms that always end up messy..and make sure theres no dirty dishes.

lol good luck:fingerscrossed:

Tidy up as much as possible! He he he! I've become a bit of an expert in hiding things....like dirty dishes in each other so it only looks like one bowl instead of a bowl and some cups

I'd say the loungeroom, dining, kitchen and toilet are the biggies. The rest you can just close the door! (Although I've been caught out a few times showing people something and they see my room! EEEK!)

My must do is the toilet, oh & I always put a fresh hand towel out in the bathroom, you know one of the good ones that only guests can use :D

I think the house looks instantly tidy if all benches and table tops are clear of clutter, then if I have time anything else is a bonus.

The bathroom and toilet give a good indication if your house is clean so they get a dose of bleach every few days

I usually don't bother...but if it's my mother, I do tend to clean up a little more.

I tidy up the benches in the kitchen, stack the dishes so they don't look REALLY messy, straighten up the cushions and move DD's toys into their toybox in the corner JUST before said guest is ready to arrive (that way DD doesn't ahve too much of a chance to mess up her toys before guest arrives!).

I don't generally care if my house is messy...it's never REALLY messy...it's just not display-home neat.

Hmm my house has been such a bombshell lately that it's hard to say where I would start at the moment:laughing: Usually though I do a quick wash-up (can't wait to get my dishwasher!) and a quick tidy up of DD's toys she spreads throughout the house!Oh and make sure there's no bra's or undies laying around!

hi

i hate it when people just drop in as i'm a bit of a tidy freak. when it happens i quickly hide any dirty dishes in the dishwasher grab the broom or vacuum and quickly wipe over the bath, toilet etc . the kids usually will help me quickly pick up their toys as long as there is a lolly involved or something:D

I usually clean up the lounge first (pack away toys etc) coz thats most likeley where guests are going to be, also I vaccuum, TRY and do ALL the dishes, put a load of washing on (even if I don't get to peg it out) spray the house with air freshner. If ppl just come over without telling me i don't really do anything and IF they say something like "your house is a mess" (hasn't happened yet) I will just say "well, its my house and if I am going to live like a pig its my decision".

I like to have the kitchen clean and the rest of the house at least a little bit neat. If the beds aren't made I just shut the doors. I like to have a clean toilet but sometimes it doesn't always get done, as DS will sneak in there and it will be a mess again.

I don't care if the house is messy because I know it is always clean!! I have 2 kids and work from home so if people drop in they can't expect the place to be perfect!! I never apologise if they have to step over toys or if there are dirty plates on the sink.

That said..I am a tidy freak and there is very rarely anything lying around - a place for everything (including dirty dishes) and everything in its place!! DD1 has also picked this up and is very good at it so there are rarely toys laying around unless DD2 has been on a rampage!!

I chuck everything into the buffet or into my walk in robe.

I did once read though that you should always have a box, and when people are coming over quickly, you should put everything in the box just to tidy it up, and then go through the box when they leave

I put all the bits and pieces that aren't in homes in a washing basket and hide it in the bedrooms. Intention is to put it all away later but if just ends up in another pile.

My first jobs as soon as I put the phone down are to:
1. hide all baby making stuff (it is a secret still)
2. just a realy quick tidy
3. change ratty pj's for normal things.

but if I get any more time I do the toilets, and sweep the floores. I go all out if it's the MIL:p
