Every time I breastfeed my darling daughter, she ends up hiccuping for about half an hour afterwards! I burp her (and she does ENORMOUS burps) until I can burp no more! But without fail - hiccup hiccup! Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong here?
(Another silly question brought to you by LadyLuck!)

our situations are completely different but ill tell you what i do anyway...
Brodie is FF but also has 3 solid meals a day. sometimes after a bottle he gets the hiccups, i found that a spoonful of purreed fruit gets rid of them instantly. might be the distraction?? i danno??
good luck!

hmmmm.... maybe theres another way to create a distraction.... like a bright flashy toy... or singing maybe....
isnt it weird how its so cute when they hiccup in our bellies then they come out and suddenly we want the hiccups to stop lol.

Why hello there :D I'm on your LJ friends list.
Liam gets the hiccups lots, but I breastfeed him a bit more when he does and it seems to help them go away. I have no idea why it happens though!

My DS#2 always got the hiccups after a feed, he had them all the time inutero too. I also fed him a bit more and they would go away and now he's 6 mths and just grown out of it. Not sure what causes it but my nan always said it means they're growing :)
Well for My DS#2 thats true he's a beautiful big boy and on the 90th percent for his weight/age.
Sorry I'm not much help....hope it clears up soon for you.
I too have this problem and DD is only 7 days old! I also find a quick top up makes them go away. The Baby Love book says hiccups are normal and nothing that we are doing causes them, apparantly they don't affect bubs as much as they do us adults. In fact I just put bubs down now with them and she's fallen to sleep.

At 3 and a half months old my little boy is starting to get better but especially when he was first born I found he had them a couple of times a day every day. The only thing that worked for me was just to stick him back on the breast - I think it's the sucking that helps to stop them. Apparently hiccups are very common in babies (according to Baby Love by Robin Barker) and they aren't all that bothered by them. My little man just looks a bit surprised every time he does one.
