First Period After Birth

This may be a totally silly question, but when does your first period arrive after giving birth (on average). My DD is now 1 month and 3 weeks old, and I stopped bleeding initally about 2 weeks after giving birth. I'm currently exculsively breastfeeding on demand. When does your period return?

Forgive me, oh knowledgeable ones, for I am ignorant in these matters :laughing:

I think with some people it can take up to 12 months before it returns. I got mine back after my child at about 6 months old I think..? I only managed to breastfeed her for 4.5 months. There's lots of breastfeeding mumma's around here who can answer this question better though. :D

Over 12 months after #1, 6 months after #2, don't know yet after #3.

If you are bf'ing, it can be quite a while.

If I was to try to take a pic of DS on the breast, he'd be spraying it everywhere. Easily distracted little man.

Anyway back to matter at hand.
With DD i breastfed for 5.5 months and she weaned herself, and within a week, i got my period. (coincidence?)

DS is now 6 months and still no sign of period.

Afriend bf her first DS fo 18 months and got her period at around 13 months. Not long later she got pg with #2 and bf him for 12 months and got her period at that point again.

I have been bfing on demand now for 6 weeks and 1 day and my first period started on Monday......Damn!!!!!!

I guess I need to be careful as I am pretty fertitle:eek:

i bf my first for 15 months-period turned up[ around month 14, i had 2 periods then got preggers with #2 so be careful girls!! :)

I tried breastfeeding but it was hard as my dd was tube fed for the first month and my milk never really came in. My period went back to monthly almost immediately!!!:mad:

I know it can take longer if you are bf though.

can't remember with DD1, although i know it was awhile. She was bf til 13 mths.

Currently DD2 is 10 mths and is bf. Haven't had any signs of period yet! You don't have to have your period to get pregnant though, so you still need to be careful.

Another Mum in my Mum's group was bf, still hadn't had period, and she is now 3 mths pregnant with No. 2! A little bit unexpected!!!:D

I got my first period when DD was 11 weeks old - I am exclusively BF. Was a bit depressed about it for a while - until I realised it was better than being pregnant with a 3 month old baby!

DS#1 I had 10 blissful period-free months.
DD It was 6 1/2. A bit disapponited in that!
DS#2 Four months!:eek: Very disappointed in that!

it depends on the person. i lasted 3 mths with my first and 4 weeks with the second yet my sister in law she didnt get it back till her bub was seven mths old which is when she gave up bf

I B/f all of mine (still going on No.3) until 9 months. No.1 it came back after 4.5 months. No.2 it came back after 7 months. No.3 it still hasn't returned and he's 6 months. I also couldn't get pregnant when b/f, but got preggers pretty soon after giving up totally both times previously.

I can guarantee that if you convince yourself you want to try for another your cycle wont return just to annoy you.

I'm so jealous of all of you! My first period after DS1 was at just over 3 weeks!!! AND he was fully breastfed! I got 5 period-free weeks after DS2!

I got mine back when DD was almost 11 months old...when she dropped down to only two feeds a day (breastfeed)

hmmm, I'm actually beginning to worry. I BF to 3 weeks, then expressed to 6 weeks. DS is 13.5 weeks old and still no sign of AF.... uh oh :confused:
