Hi,

Anyone make their own wedding cake or go to a wedding where they made their own?

We're trying to cut corners to save money and the cake was only ever symbolic to us. Now I think, how more symbolic can you get having a wedding cake that was made by the bride and groom? I'm thinking a big fat chocolate wedding cake.

What do you think?

I think its a great idea. I'd even do it myself.

You could also look for a cheap cake decorating course, our local church runs one in school holidays for kids and parents, or I am sure you can look it up online and get some pointers if you wanna do that perfect icing! Or maybe some of the girls on bubhub can give you some pointers :D

Dad made mine. It looked just as good as some of the bought ones out there. If you want I can scan in a photo and post it for you.

my mum and husband made our wedding cake, it was the hit of the night

it was a white chocolate and jack daniels cake it was DIVINE......

they just covered the layers in white chocolate icing and we lay singapore orchids across the top to match the table decorations

that cake is so good cause as the white chocolate and whiskey cooked together they formed this yummy kinda toffee crust almost mmmm

anyway I thought it was sooooo cool our cake was made by mum and DH...made it even more special

Here it is (http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll167/kynanhunter/?action=view&current=img005.jpg)

The top was caramel and the bottom was chocolate mud cake. That's white chocolate on the outside and fake flowers on top.

hey
what state do you live in? I am at the moment looking at turning my long time hobby into a business. If you are near i would do your cake at cost of materials. I would love some experience in weddings.
PM me and i could show you some pictures.

my friends made their own wedding cake & it was amazing :) they had one layer choc mudcake, one baileys and banana and the top layer was just a spongecake with ganache icing :)

maybe do a few trials then see what you think :D

I think its a great idea. I'd consider doing it myself though I'm not the best cake maker. :o

my bestie had her grandma make hers and it was fab. we had ours made by a friend of a friend as a wedding present. it was yummy too. as long as you have the time (and are a better cake maker than me) you should go for it. just remember things are rather busy the week before the wedding.

you could also order one from woolies if you want. we had one from there for our engagement party.
