View Full Version : Which is better?
I am trying to choose between the following Baby Carriers and just cannot decide. So far, have narrowed it down to:
Tomy Safari Baby Carrier
Tomy Freestyle Cool Baby Carrier
Kapoochi Classic Carry Puch
Baby Bjorn Active Carrier
Hug-A-Bub
I have a bad back and need one that has great back support. If anyone could give me some recommendations on the above that would be great. Once I have collected a few, I will decide.
Thanks in anticipation - :hugs:

Hi!
I think you'll find that the Baby Bjorn has the best back support. But Im a big fan of slings (especially for newborns) and they have good support if they are worn properly.
Just to throw a loop - although Choice magazine rates baby bjorn as the best of that collection you have listed, can I recommend one that they didn't test - the ergo baby carrier - www.ergobabycarrier.com. I used a baby bjorn for my two girls but by the time they got to 5 months my back was shocking - I changed to the ergo and I can still carry my 20 month old in it with no dramas. The Australian website I bought mine from is www.carryingaway.com.au - based in Brisbane so you can go and see her in person if you live here.

I was given a kappouchi as a hand me down.
I found it great but there were just some days when I could not use it, my back would just hurt too much.
I bought a sling for the next bub, but DH will still use the kappouchi.
We are using a Baby Bjorn and I hate it - it is killing my neck and shoulders!
As per Draught's suggestion, I'm going to look into the Ergo Baby Carrier and I'm also going to look at the Hug a Bub.
I have a Tomy Safari :) I don't love it, but I don't hate it either.
I mostly just used it when I was grocery shopping when DS was a bub, til her could sit up in the trolley. I used it exclusively for the first 2mths with DD then got a pram and have continued using the pouch when we are grocery shopping.
When I go grocery shopping it takes between 2-4hrs (I pay bills etc on that day too). I find that anything longer than that and I have a backache for a few hrs, nothing a hot shower doesn't fix tho. After a normal shopping trip my back is a bit sore/stiff when I first take DD out of the pouch (she weighs over 8kg), but I think it's a combination of her weight and pushing one of those horrible trolleys around...with my 3yo in it.
If you don't plan on using it all day then it's fine, but if you want to be able to use it all day then I'd look at something different.

I wonder if some of the people bagging the Baby Bjorn here used the regular rather than the "active" version. I have the "active" and love it - I have walked around for hours with my 5 kilo son in it and have felt totally comfortable. Based on my experience I would highly recomend it to you.
I had a carrier but I through it in the bin after my 5 kg baby girl (at the time) dropped through the bottom of it. It was a Kapoochie ... go figure. and because I had had it for 2.5 yrs I couldn't get any answers out of the customer service as to why the bottom split so they gave me a $30 voucher for a bright pink (limited edition) nappy bag which I took one look at and baulked. (i'm not a pink person)
I just looked at the site Draught posted and I like the look of that Ergo carrier. My boy has reflux and it would make my life so much easier to have a carrier for him now.
I did have a Baby Bjorn but returned it, I found it very comfy and had no back probs using it.
However I took DS out one day a he was crying, I though I would change his nappy and was shocked to see these red marks between his legs (that turned in to little brusies) where the carrier was digging in to him. I went back asking if I was using it right, many shocked shop assistants later and phone calls to the Baby Bjorn Sales rep. I returned my Baby Bjorn as they said that they could not help me, they had no explaination why it was happening but could see that it was a real problem.
I looked at getting a Tommy Safari carrier but they did not look to offer enough head support.
I would love to try a hug-a-bub but will not pay $100 for something that I have to seen and can not try on.:(
We are using a Jolly baby carrier at the moment it is the only one that DS dose not cry when put in. The down side is that baby is slid in and it can be a little tricky getting him in and out.
