My DD is on Zantac - (currently 2mls 4 times a day), since 3 weeks old, but it seems to be not working any more. Does anyone know if they can build up a resistance to it? My GP doesn't seem to know much about it and our Paeds. appt. isn't till next month. Should I be asking GP to give us something else?
Also, is it supposed to stop the chucking altogether???? She is on normal formula with the karicare thickener added to it to make it like paste, but occasionally chucks.
TIA!!!

When Brooke was on it, she had to have 1ml before a bottle/meal and 1ml after a bottle/meal.......before every meal/bottle. She was on Prepulsid also (now withdrawn from the market). It seemed to stop the acid from burning her throat, but I ended up taking her off both medications after 1mth and by that time the reflux had stopped. I took her off them because she was having 8 bottles and 3 meals a day, so I was forever giving her medication (11 doses of Prepulsid and 22 doses of Zantac a day).
Maybe you could call a medical centre or hospital and ask them, or see another GP to find out more.
I would be calling the paed's office to try to get in earlier. I think it is best to see someone who really knows what they are doing. Most GP's don't have the experience that paeds do. My DD#1 was on zantac for 11 months. She was a bad chucker but it never stopped it completly, it just made it so the chucking didn't cause her pain etc. and not so much chucking. (hope I'm making sense here, it's been a long day)
I would call the paed in the morning see if you can get the app brought forward. I know my paed is very good and will fit us in anytime, usually that day and even right after I call, but we have a very good relationship, he even gave us his home and mobile numbers, (yep, we see him that often, sad I know:rolleyes: :o )

The dose needs to be increased as their weight increases so that it works. My DS didn't stop throwing up either, it's really just to stop the pain of hte reflux. Good luck.:)
