Hopefully, this is a simple one.... how do you tell the difference between a heat rash and eczema that's caused by the heat???

I took Cameron to a doc a few months ago and was told the eczema around his neck was caused by the heat. We've now moved to Cairns and the rash has appeared along with another rash all over his back. Is there anyway to tell which it is?

I don't want to use the talcum powder thinking its heat rash when in fact it's the eczema..... nor do i want to use dermeze for the eczema when it's heat rash!!! :banghead:

I would assume if it was heat rash it would go away iykwim, where as eczema hangs around unless you treat the cause of the reaction.

Does your bub have allergies?
Are there allergies in your family or dh family?

My ds had very bad eczema and it would come up really bad then ease a bit then come back full force but it never disappeared completely

I had my ds tested for allergies, we put him on the elimination food diet and I went on it too as I was bfing, we cut out dairy and went to see a natropath.

I would reccomend a natropath as they are brillant, but also be sure to check things with your GP

ooops I just read your post again sorry I didnt answer your Q. D'oh:o

If the heat is the cause of the eczema then i would assume you need to keep the area moist to help the skin retain moisture and not dry out causing further irritation.

I knew a friend who used vaseline on her son as he had servere eczema and the only thing that helped was to cover him in vaseline.

I would still see a natropath, my ds's eczema cleared up toyally after seeing one:smiliedance: they are great.

I hope your bub gets better soon its so hard to watch them suffer so!
