HI there
My hubby and i decided last wek to pack up and move to Hervey bay. We have sold our business and our home is up for rent (we put it up yesterday and its already rented) so we have to get out by 18th May.
So....where do i start.
Whats the best area to live in. We have a 2 and a 1 year old. We will be renting for a while untill we decided its where we want to stay.
What employment like. We dont want to get full time jobs. We have worked our buts off for the past 18 months in our own business so just want part time work. We owned a fish and chip shop so just work like that for a while.
Any hints tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated.
AND..... im going to a friendless when i arrive so if anyone would like to offer to show us around that would be great.

Hello,,,,,, well we dont live in Hervey Bay but we r moving there too, hopefully be living there in Jan/ feb next year, we have to sell here first, we have been to hervey bay a bit to check things out and we think the nicer areas r Torquay/urangan on the right side of boat harbour drive , the houses r newer, on the beach side they r old beach shacks, Kawungun and urraween are good too,,, or if u want to live out of town toogoom has some new houses to rent at a good price,,,, i was told to steer clear from eli waters as its built around a man made lake and attracts mozziies and when they have floods eli waters would get flooded first as the land is closer to the ocean:no:,,,, we have a nearly 3 yr old and 5 yr old and we will be looking to rent also while we look for a house to buy:yes: and we stayed in a holiday house off robert st near the sandy strait state school and urangan high school and there r some nice houses there to rent and buy,,,, the tow school i mentionioned are good too,,,, Hervey bAY HIGH has a bit of a bad rep, so we will be sending our kids to sandy strait and urangan high when they r old enough ,,,, another good area is wondunna which is a new estate with brand new homes and star of the sea school is a good private catholic school if thats what u want and thats close by,,,, scarness has some nice homes and is central to the shops,,,, as far as kindys go,, i checked out the hervey bay community kindy on east st scarness and thats a C&k kindy but u have to put ur name down for that,,, my ds will go there in 2011,,,,pialba is an older suburb and i hear its a bit rough but thats where all the shops are,, i wouldnt live there but would go shopping there,,,,, ummmm ,,,,the beaches r great, they r safe swimming beaches as they have no waves,,,, scarness seems to be the popular beach with families as the have a great park there too and they r also building a water park with bubblers and things for kids,,,, think that being finished in june,,,, pt vernon is ok but only houses out there,,, a long drive to get to schools and shops,,, its nice to go for a picnic at gatekers bay though:thumbsup:,,,, any way think thats got it all covered,,,ask anything else i would be happy to help,,,, Hervey Bay is a great place for families,,, we cant wait to move there, the people we have met are very friendly and once we move there i would be happy to be friends with u,,, we r on the gold coast and cant wait to get out of the rat rACE here, where r u moving from? anyway chat soon:)

Thanks for the reply.
We are also from the gold coast - we live at Bonogin (back of mudgerraba if you didnt know)
We have just sold our business at Burleigh and have just decided to up and move. Im so sick of drving 40 mins to get anywhere and being stuck in traffic all the time!!! We have nothing to really keep us here and have already rented ot our house very quickly so we are lookiing at moving in the next few weeks (scary) We are heading up there on Thurs/ Fri to check it out.
Thanks so much for your advice. Ill keep it in mind when we are looking around.
Would be great to catch up once you move up there - we will be in the same boat i guess not knowing anyone or anything much about the area so it would be great to have a friend
Take Care

Hi Meagan,
My husband and I did the whole sea change thing to Hervey Bay 2 years ago now. We where much in the same boat with not knowing anyone in town or even what the place looked liked. The people here are very friendly you wont have any problems making friends. I've meet people who I consider my dearest friends and I've only know them just short of 2 years. We're pregant with our first so I can't give you much advice on schools. But as far as location goes you've got lots to pick from. It depends what you're after. On the edge of town you can get anything from a 5 acre + blocks. In town normal size residental houses and blocks are plentaful and cheap! Well the locals don't think so but anyone who's lived in the city will think so. The annoying thing about HB is nowhere is central. We don't have a major shoping complex or a main centre of town. So a day out shopping is really a DAY out shopping driving all over town to buy stuff. But what that does mean is where ever you end up living you will be near something! Plus you can drive from one end of HB to the other in 20mins so nothing is really that far away..again the locals would disagree:) We've been renting since we first got here to give us a chance to look around and find where we want to live, I might recommend you do the same. There are some really bad parts as with every town. Be prepared to take it slow once you're here and I mean real slow. Hubby and I had high pressure jobs before and moved here to buy our own business but what we found is it's very laid back and slow here, nothing happens in a hurry and people seem fine with that! We've joined in now but it took some getting use to!!! Well I hope you've found this useful. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
