View Full Version : Michelle Obama Wears $540 Designer Sneakers, TO FEED THE POOR
It's a first lady faux pas -- wearing expensive, high-fashion French designer sneakers to a food bank
.
Michelle Obama wore the sneakers, made by Lanvin, while helping feed the poor at a Washington
food bank on Wednesday. The pricetag on the footwear? A cool $540.
The White House did not return a message seeking comment.

Who cares? She can afford them. Should she have got dressed at the Salvo's instead?

The only thing that is bad taste about this is that this kind of B.S makes it into the news:no:
She is the wife of the president of one of the wealthiest countries in the world, is anyone really surprised that she wears expensive sneakers? Do we really think she would have a pair of dirty old vollies lying around for trips out like this? Should she have gone op-shopping for an outfit before she hit the streets? Do you think the poor people were so jealous of her footwear that they completely overlooked the free food?
just don't get it, it's ridiculous:rolleyes:
are you ladies so convinced that consumerism is reasonable that you think it is decent to wear shoes that cost more than the average US weekly wage while handing out food to people that probably dont even have a pair of shoes on?
OMG this world is becoming pretty sick
why shouldnt it be news?
people should be aware of the hipocracy of these elitists .. this is what people vote in!
i dont think being the presidents wife is a reason to shove in our faces consumerism at its worst.. in fact its more of a reason for respect/consideration and compassion to others by being thoughtful
i dont take too well to wasting money on such things while people starve..
perhaps she could have fed an extra 1000 people on that $500.... that is a big pile of boglanaise

what a waste of time it was to write that article:rolleyes:
now im just taking a guess here but im thinking the people at the food bank (the ones that matter) had their minds far from what was on her feet. my 2 guesses are
"holy heck its the presidents misses serving me"
or
"p!ss the cameras off and let me get the dame food"
bad taste ??? they are shoes and not very good looking ones at that (actually the only bad taste is the shoes themselves), if i saw them i would be thinking what the heck she did to the vollys.....i actually think the shoes look pretty cheap
and so she should dress in daggy clothes?
hmmm, bad taste in wasting the presses time printing it.
it is not her sole responsibilty to give everything she earns to the poor... im under the impression that they actually give away a good chunk of change to charities every year from their own pocket:cool:

I also think she probably didnt pay for them anyway, she was probably given them as apparently anything she is seen wearing sells out asap....
did you see them anyway UGGGGLLLYYYY the poor people probably pitied her:laughing:
absolutely ugly!
BUT its not the point! tch
as for dressing in daggy clothes.. why are shoes that are NOT $500 daggy?

I think she would have looked far sillier if she had deliberately dressed down to pretend to "fit in"-that would be a little tasteless considering most would know she is the president's missus and all. She would look like a hypocrite, dressing down one day and then wandering about the next in all her finery. I do not believe she has less to offer the world simply because she is wealthy so I do not see why she should have to pretend.
when will the 'finery' EVER not be considered something that us peasants need to look up to ?
perhaps i am easily peed off with elitists I just wish humans looked up to more important things than clothing

I don't really understand that comment because it is you who brought her clothing to our attention, and we responded. I couldn't have given a second thought to what she chooses to put on her feet had I not read it here.
I can't remember the last time a prominent male figure was criticised for his clothing/hair/body/style etc, pretty sure I never saw old Bush in thongs either and yet it never raised a mention! Curious:detective:
What would they prefer her to go out and spend more money on a cheap pair just to wear at the occasion

I think it's in bad taste to point out what her shoes cost at all.
well obviously.. her shoes MUST be important or she wouldnt be wearing $500 shoes would she?
is it important to me..
Hell Yeah.. when people are dying on the streets of the USA from homelessness and hunger, i think it is disgusting their first lady is walking around is ugly expensive shoes ...
absolutely wrong.. i think people forget that politicians are employees of the public

and if she was walking around in ugly shoes people would be criticising her about that! I'm not sure the woman can win really. Let's just ignore the whole feeding the poor bit and go back to the more important issue at hand-her shoes.

Yes it would be much more appropriate of her to have not showered for a week, scummed through a donation bin for her outfit and worn no shoes whilst she completed her charity work..
That wouldnt be degrading or insulting at all..
Seriously, the nerve of her, and of Barack for letting her leave the house in those shoes.. :shame:

Actually, politically it is a faux pas. And her advisors should have thought of it.

 absolutely...
hmmm perhaps i should have been nosey enough to ask how many of those that think it is okay to do what she did would do the same thing?
I have thought more about this since posting and the more i think about it the more I think its ridiculus and not news
So She was at a charity even feeding the poor, and she was sporting pricey shoes, So they are saying that makes her rude and disrespectful
Ok so what do the ones of you that think she was wrong in doing this supose that she wears to such events, Its no secret that she has money and can afford nice shoes
So look at this in perspective so if she went to a charity event for say disabled children and tool her own able children would that be wrong would that be flauting that she has able kids NO its the same thing

Oh, i must have missed the part where she rubbed it in there faces.. Did she walk in, serve some food, talk to the people and leave?? Or while she was there did she pop her foot on the table, waggle her new shoes around, mention it in every conversation, and gush over her expensive shoes??

To be honest Morrigan I think my mind probably would have been elsewhere, like yanno feeding the poor or something?? I would have given zilch thought to my outfit for the day , if that makes me bad mannered than so be it. I've certainly been called worse. ;)
 i give up...
whatever ladies.. have your fun go for it..
womens rights bah humbug most ppl cant even get human rights figured out..
tantrums out of thread
It's only 'news' because she's a female. When was the last time you saw a story about what a male politician wore?
I would happily pay that much money for a pair of good quality, comfy, well fitting shoes if I had it. It's not consumerism if she has them for years or donates them to charity afterwards and raises lots of money. It's much more environmentally sound to have something of high quality that lasts for years than keep buying low quality cr@p.

Something tells me the homeless/hungry etc have more pressing concerns than Obama's wifes shoes, but I could certainly be wrong.
