My son is 8.5 months and still not crawling. I don't know what the average age is but all the babies around us have been crawling for ages. My son spends most of the day on the floor but has no interest in crawling or pulling himself up. He is a big boy and i wonder if its because of his size or if he is just really lazy. Any advice on how i can encourage him would be great

DON'T WORRY !!

My friends bub just started to crawl 2 weeks after her first birthday....and girls usually develop quicker. Don't worry about comparing.
Ever met a person that never learned to walk??lol.

My friends bub developed in leaps & bounds. She was worried because he hadn't even rolled at 6 or 7 months, and then rolled and sat up in one day. At around 13 months he went in about 2 days from just sitting to crawling & pulling himself up and taking steps. He'll catch on and start moving when he gets frustrated enough in not being able to get to stuff around him. All bubs reach this point at a different age, sometimes before their physically strong enough, sometimes after.

Enjoy your limited time left with a non-mobile baby, life will never be the same once he gets going!

When my son was a similar age I started to worry as he was not crawling and it seemed everyone in the mothers group and friends with younger bubs were all crawling some taking steps while being held by their hands.
He is now 11mths crawling so fast and starting to cruise around furniture.
It will happen like everyone has said and you will be so excited when it does unfortuately it dosnt stop you from having those worries that he wont.

My son crawled at a bit over 9mths and walked at 12mths. My friends son, who is 1mth older than mine, crawled on his first b'day and didn't walk til he was 18mths old. They are both just over 2yrs old now and you can't tell who walked first :)
I have been told that the ages mum and dad crawled/walked, etc... can give you an idea of when bub will reach those milestones. Having said that, I crawled at 6mths and walked at 9.5mths, my DH bottom shuffled at 7mths, never crawled properly, then didn't walk til almost 18mths...so our son was kinda in the middle :)

Hi Kamaikia

I'm with everyone else - nothing to worry about. The average age for anything in the first couple of years has GREAT variations.

My first was crawling at six months and up and running at ten months ...

My second little cherub wasn't in the slightest bit interested in crawling until 9 months and you can just forget about walking because I'm happy where I am on the floor thanks mummy! Sometimes I wish I could sit on the floor for hours... :p

Don't worry what those around you are doing. Just because their babies are crawling earlier, walking earlier, teething earlier, talking earlier ... whatever earlier - is no reflection on your parenting skills.

Babies do what they do when they're ready to do it.

At least you know where he is .... right where you left him!

Enjoy.

My dd didn't crawl until she was 10 mnths and walked at 14mnths, I too had people commenting in a sly way but I really didn't care.. I have 2 nephews the same age 1 born same day as her he crawled by 7mnths, and the other at 11mnths.

All her playgroup friends etc started at around 7mnths, the one thing I've noticed is that my dd is alot more advanced in her speech. I have noticed that some bubs are very active and into everything and others are happier watching tv reading talking etc. It's what makes us all different.

Don't worry he is being loved and pampered all too soon he won't want mummy as much!!! :p

Hi There

I had to reply to this one.

My little girl did not start crawling until she was 10 months old and did not start walking till she was 16 months old.

My theory is that she was making sure in secret that she could do these things before she let us know she could do it. ;)

Paige has never been one of those kids that stumbles and falls over all the time she is very very steady on her feet and runs her little feet off now. All kids develop in their own time and I must admit I was worried especially when all the other children were running cirlces around Paige.

Guess what the mums were running around too and I was relaxing watching the chaos. Enjoy the imobile time because as soon as they crawl and walk they become little people and you realise your baby is no longer.

Paige just turned 2 in May and is very much her own person, she is now a little girl and I feel like my baby was a long time ago, silly as it sounds. This stage is so much fun though so it takes away the missing my baby state.

Hope this alleviates your worries, have fun.

From

Kirsten :)
