View Full Version : Are all babies terrified of blenders/vacuum cleaners?

Mine is.

I made a smoothie before and he screamed hysterically (even while my partner was comforting him) and gasped and shuddered even after it was switched off. (he wasn't in the same room)

He's similiar with the vacuum cleaner.

He can cope with the vacuum cleaner if I put him in the Ergo while I'm doing it but the blender really sets him off?

Is this what all babies do, or do I have a nervy one?

I really like smoothies though...:(

Mine is terrified of the vaccuum yet at the same time can't resist turning it on?

He will crawl up and turn it on, knowing that it will make a huge noise and make him cry.... you can see him hesitating before he turns it on, should i, shouldn' i - in the end he can't resist.

lol!

Make me worry a bit for the future tbh

 my bub isn't like that, she often goes to sleep when i vacuum! I have been known to vacuum to calm her down at times.

I am sure its not to uncommon though, i am pretty sure it was my nephew who screamed in hysterics if my sis vacuumed.

maire: yours likes to live life on the edge?:)

I can get around the vacuum issue (one of us can do it while the other takes the baby out) but not the blender!

Ds loves both of them. However from day one i use to vacuum under his cot while sleeping and made smoothies everyday :)

He now chases the vacuum and pulls it around like a dog on a leash

Spencer hates the blender/juicer/cake mixer but doesnt mind the vacuum. He just gets cranky when I dont let him have a go or when I try to put it away. So now it is permantly under our dining table.

He claps when I'm done...so cute

...maybe his fear is a sign I don't vacuum enough.

I guess I'll just have to get my partner to take him outside while I blend as the poor thing was terrified and hysterical.

How old is your DS?

DD used to be ....would scream everytime I tried to vacuum and then stop as soon as I turned it off.... But now she is over it at 10 months has been for a little while.
Blender is prolly a loud scary noise to them. He will get used to it.

Ds was like this with the blender when he was younger. He has always been a little bit nervy though. The other day we were in the garage and dh was up in the roof and ds was watching him and he freaked out because he was up there. I couldn't understand why but it seemed to freak him out for some reason.

It is a frightful noise.

When DS1 was a baby he would get really upset every time I vacuumed. As he got older, I would warn him that I was about to vaccum and he would go into his room and close his door until I was finished  I think it only got better when he was 3-4 years old.

Then I had DD1 who didn't worry about the VC at all. In fact, when she was old enough to walk, she would sit on the vacuum cleaner and ride it as I vacummed - go figure :)

maire: yes, the blender is horrible. Mine's particularly bad. When I make a banana smoothies it sounds like I'm blending rocks. Unpleasant for all. The neighbours probably cry as our unit's kitchen is in close proximity to those of our neighbours (strange u-shape Melrose Place arrangement without the pool).

emmasmummy: he's 7 months - maybe he'll grow out of it.

DS hates loud noises incl the blender and vaccum cleaner. When I turn it on he sort of jumps in fright and then covers his ears with his hands... strange as dd never had a problem.

nope. i got a child who wont let me vacuum as he wants to do it. he will go and grab the vacuum without me even know while i am off doing other things. he will then take it upon himself to plug it in and start vacuuming. so ladies, if you dont have time to vacuum, i will send coop over for you:D

the blender, he is always intrigued with the noise as he just loves loud noises. luckily he cant get to that otherwise i am sure that would be going quite a bit as well.

My DD was like that until recently. I think it has taken her a few months to get used to it.

I think there are noises that annoy everyone, like the beeps once the microwave is done or the washing mashine... I went out today looking for a microwave the i could turn the beeps off and if i was electricly minded I would pull apart the washing machine to stop it from beeping at me!

Mine used to be scared of the vacuum but now he loves it. I liked it better when he was scared of it, at least I could vacuum without him trying to do it for me.

DD loves noises like the vaccume, she actually loves the vaccume:laughing:
Not worried about blenders either.

The only noise that used to worry her a bit was the mower. Now she is not fussed by them.

:laughing:My thoughts exactly!

DS used to be frightened of the vacuum, the blender and the hair dryer but he grew out of it .
