I have recently needed to swap to a gluten and wheat free diet which I am feeling great with, however finding it really difficult finding different foods to eat, things to cook, where to eat when im out shopping etc...
Is there any takeaway places which have gluten free options?
When looking at ingredients to check if they are okey is it only gluten and wheat Im looking for or is there other names for the same ingredients??
Ill be visiting a dietician as soon as I can get in however what sort of meals can I prepare in the mean time??
& one other thing, is there anything wrong with ds eating gluten free as there is only him and I, in the household or could this possibly give him an intolerance without him having one in the first place??

There are quite a few restaurants now that cater for intolerences and allergies - our local pub indicated GF etc on their menu.
I'd check out the Cealiacs Society etc for their recomendatuions.
Most large (and many small) supermarkets have great products available now - expecially Orgran and Basco.
I don't see a problem with DS being GF as well - check out with your dietician to be sure, but you cant GIVE someone an allergy or intolerence - it's to do with your own bodies make up - however if you need to be GF - he may need to aswell?

Thanks plenty for that WCM. I picked up a few products from health food stores and some supermarkets today. both basco and orgran.
Can celiac's be hereditry?? (sp?)
Kinda freaking out as I have a big holiday coming up which I cannot take food... stressing as I was hoping to just duck out and eat wherever with everyone else... now It'll be a bit of a pain lol...

Celiacs is an auto-immune disease and closely linked to diabetes.
You can't catch it or cause it per se, but you can be genetically predisposed. It then takes a trigger to kick it off - like stress, a virus etc etc
There is a high incidence of sufferers having both conditions.
If you have a medical condition - let the holiday organisers know, ask them to provide food or a discount to provide your own.
Instead of looking at the closed window - what you can't have - look at all what you can have.
You can eat meat (hold the gravey/sauces), you can eat fresh fruit and vegies, you can eat many processed fruit and vegies (canned, frozen etc) There are many cereals (not breakfast I mean) but seeds, cereals, legumes and beans that you can eat.
Polenta is great to use instead of bread crumbs, corn flour (not wheat based) is great for sauces and graveys etc etc.
Be very very careful of cross contamination - turf your toaster or cleanse it properly - and never share your toaster ever again.
Read read read all ingredients of all foods - even if it was ok yesterday - it doesn't mean they haven't changed the process in the mean time. Watch out for "malt" ingredients unless specified GF - often malted stuff comes from wheat.
Read the ingredients especially of lollies - some have wheta based glucous - it's supposed to be gluten free by some sufferes still react.
Research, reseasrch research - always keep up with as much RECENT knowledge as possible - remember that ideas, theories and *facts* can be disproven and changed as often as you change your knickers.
Good luck!

WCM- I am quite optimistic and its quite a healthy way of life... however i think its more the fact of not knowing enough about where and what i can eat etc :).

Hey, I found out I have Coeliacs recently to, so I know exactly how confusing and difficult it can be. *sigh*
Last night I ate something I think somehow had wheat in it and now I am sick. *sigh*.
Eating while traveling/out is difficult and everything to.
I hope we both feel better soon...... That sick feeling is just shocking.

It mayn't be the oil as such, but what was cooked in the oil previously (if the oil was re-used) or what was cooked in the pan earlier - if the pan/cook wasn't washed thoroughly.
This is why you should have your own toaster etc - some people go so far as to have their own jam/butter/spreads in case someone has put a dirty/crumby knife into the spread.
Fried fish from a fish shop cannot be gluten free unless the whole shop is 'cos they don't clean the frying tray enough - it's clean enough to cook for the average person from a hygenic point of view but can contain traces of wheat etc.
Good luck - it can be hard
