Hi

If you choose a no-gap ob but then don’t get your chosen ob at delivery (for whatever reason) and a different ob delivers your baby and is NOT registered as a no-gap ob with your health fund, would you still have to pay the gap even though you initially choose a no-gap doctor.

Just trying to decide if the no-gap is a factor I should consider when/if I need to choose an ob (not entirely sure if I will even go private when the time comes).

Can anyone also let me know if they DIDN’T choose a no-gap ob initially, do you know what the gap was that you had to pay? Was it a substantial amount or not?

Hope this isn’t too confusing.

TIA :)

Interesting question!

Sometimes no gap OB's only work in groups with other no gap OB's but this isn't always the case.

Definitely something to ask at your next visit, this would be something that would vary across the board I think. Though my initial feeling would be that you should not have to pay the gap. If you have booked with a no gap OB and then go into labour at a time he is calling backup - that's not really your problem I wouldn't think.

Let me know how you go, I'd be interested to hear.
