DD is almost 2 and over the last few eeks has developed a very nast nappy rash. At first it was just a couple of spots that looked like lil pimples, then within a few days had spread and was bleeding and oozing . Now, it looks almost like her skin has turned purple there (no more pimples or bleeding tho).. as if she's been burnt. She gets bad rashes when she is teething but its never been this bad before.

When I first saw it appear, i was using bepanthin (spelling?), which is what ive always used, but it just seemed to make it worse. I started using Curash and it cleared up the pimples and bleeding etc, but the redness is still there. It doesnt seem to be bothering her which is good.

I give her nappy free time every day, to help dry it out as well. Has anyone ever had this problem?

I also tried using baby powder to help dry it out but that just seemed to make things worse as well.... not quite sure what to do next? As i said, its healed in the way of blisters etc, but its still very red, almost purple.

I've heard paw paw ointment is very good and also baby powder with corn flour in it is supposed to be good.

Surprising that bepanthen didnt work, i have always used it and its been very good, maybe try it now that the area isn't so bad, maybe the area could have been badly infected before and thats why it didnt work so well, sometimes the child may need anti biotics for severe nappy rash.

Good luck

I've used paw paw ointment on my last 2 children and wouldn't use anything else! I went to the doctor for a particularly bad nappy rash on my daughter about 3 years ago and he said that paw paw is the only one he would recommend.

It's available in chemists and it is in red tubes and tubs. It will be in the general cream section not the baby section. It's quite expensive, but well worth it. I only use it when the rash gets really bad and as soon as it settles (with 1-2 days) I go back to Sudocream.
