stimulus cheques???

Just a quick question...

My partner and I received our cheques in the mail last week and I deposited them into our account on Friday.

I checked our account today and they still haven't cleared. I thought cheques like that would clear straight away?

Did this happen to anyone else? If so, how long did they take to clear?

It says on my account that the balance is $1800 more than is in there so I know they are ready to go but when do they come through on my account?

I know with my bank cheques take 3-4 working days to clear.

Cheques (even bank cheques) always take 3 days to clear, unless you pay for a special clearance.

But, I see your point, you think the banks would know the ATO is good for it.:laughing:

Seriously though, even that kind of cheque could be stolen/fraudulent in some way.

If at the time of deposit, you request a Reserve Bank cheque to clear, they will generally be available instantly, but if the teller that processes the transaction is new or not switched on, it can be put through like an ordinary cheque. A Reserve Bank cheque is as good as cash. Or we are all up the creek!

We put a bank cheque in our account recently and it took 5 working days to clear!

i banked mine thursday morning, it didn't show up as clear til saturday so it might clear tonight for you

but different banks might be different.

I know sometimes its got to do with your account usage too..like i know I could bank a $300 cheque and they release the funds straight away...a teller explained to me its something to do with the amount of money that goes into and is cycled through the account regularly..cant remember exactly
