Hi all,

Just doing some research on immunisations at the moment. My little one is 18months and has had her 2,4 and 6 month shots. I really hadnt questioned the immunisations schedule at all, just went along with it as i thought it was 'the right thing to do'.

Anyway since then ive decided to do some research as i've never really been comfortable with the whole immunisation thing. My little one hasnt had any more shots since her 6 month ones.

Im looking at getting her into childcare and was just wondering if she'll be accepted seeing as she isnt up to date with her shots and i dont really see her getting them (if at all) until im at ease with my decision.

Hope someone can help.

DC centres cant exclude you from enrolling an unvaxed child, they can however exclude the child should a vax preventable disease occur in the centre. How long your child would be excluded for depends on the type of disease. And after 7yrs in day care (at various centres) I have never once had a child with a vax preventable disease. Go the herd theory huh!

ETA. I dont vax either :)

TBH I have never been asked to see my DS vax status to simply apply for childcare only once he has been enrolled.... so if they had refused him childcare I would have had a good case to claim discrimination (under NSW anti discrimination laws)

Phew, thats so good to know. I had visions of being forced to vaccinate just so she could get into daycare.

Thanks Renenet. Do you work in daycare?

Do i need a letter from the doctor or anything?

I used to work in day care Im a stay at home mum now :)

No you dont need a letter, they will probebly want to see your childs development book (you know the one that they track growth ect in) even if it is incomplete, it wont matter. You can get a conciencious form filled out but you dont need one for enrolement.

DS is 2, and is up to date except for the CP vax. I just said that to them when i gave them his Blue book and she said all was fine, they would just exclude him if there was a CP outbreak - which is fine. We didn't need a CO form or to sign anything.

i was not able to get the child care benefit unless i vaxxed my child or had a CO form signed.

Thats good.
Can you tell me what a conciencious form is?

What did you do?

Can you tell me what a CO form is? (Is it the one that Renenet is talking about in her post?)

We had to show evidence of all vaccinations at our DC. I would have liked to be informed if their were unvaxed children attending though.

I would like to know because the more unvaxed children the more risk of my vaxed child getting a disease even though she has had her shots. Vaccines are not 100% effective, but at least if all of the kids are vaxed at her daycare, she has less risk of bringing something home to her siblings. Does that make sense?

Yep, it does make sense :) I just don't think they are allowed to tell you? I mean it would be a breach of privacy I think...can anyone confirm this?

We have been asked for vaccination status a couple of times....at the boys school we said we would be providing documentation soon and were never asked anymore than that. I do not know who in my boys classes are vaxxed or unvaxxed or anything in between.

Phew, I am glad that made sense as I am so tired at the moment!

I would never want to know which child it was in particular as I agree that is a privacy issue and the child would be discriminated against by some. I would just like to know if anyone there was not vaxed.

Yes, they are probably allowed to tell you that.....just not name names.

Why though Poppie? The out come wont change :)

You are entitled to child care and the Immunisation allowance even though your child isnt vaxxed :)

Good for you on making that choice! It really is a hard decision to make and as long as you know its the right one then blah to everyone else

Hi, not sure if all of that was directed at me !

But to answer the first part, if I have another bub, I would take DD out of DC whilst bubs was small. I know that is a bit extreme to some!

Hi
I’m just wondering, if a child isn’t fully vaccinated would you still get assistance from centreline for child care fees?

Julie

You get the same benefits if you have lodged the concientious objector forms. If not, then no.

Its the governments form of blackmailing parents to vax their child, especially those who don't know about the CO form

YOu can download the CO form from here

http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/public/files/ma_conscientious_objection_form.pdf

You need to get your Dr to sign it or your MCHN.

Otherwise you will not recieve the CCB.

A C/O form basically alows you to claim the maternity immunisation allowance when you have chosen to not vax/delay vaxing and for a few other reasons explained at this link- http://www.familyassist.gov.au/internet/FAO/fao1.nsf/content/payments-mia-exemptions.htm

http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/payments/qual_how_ccb.htm

You may be eligible for Child Care Benefit if:

you use approved or registered child care, and
you or your partner (if you have one) are living permanently in Australia, and
you are either an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, the holder of a permanent visa, the holder of certain temporary visas, an Australian Government sponsored student or in other special circumstances, and
your child is immunised or exempt from the immunisation requirements, and
you are liable for child care fees for your child
For a list of exepmtions look at first link in this post
