Hi
My Son is 11 weeks old and was born with a huge stork mark on his forehead. I get so annoyed with everyone staring at it.. people are so rude! I have even heard people talk about him when they think I can't hear. Poor little guy.
Our pediatrician said they fade over time and it should have gone by the time he is 2 years old.
Has anyone else's baby had a stork mark and how long did it take to fade?

Hi there.
My ds had a stork mark on the back of his neck.
It had gone by the time he was a year old.
Sorry people are being rude about it.

My DD1 has one on the back of her head. It never really faded but the hair covers it.
My DD2 has one on her forehead & back of head. The paediatrician said it was because her head grew too quickly inside me. Dunno how true that is. He say that it will fade slightly over time. But he said that when she is older and cries or geets angry it could flare up.
DD1 had a raised strawberry on her arm. Everyone commented on this. Family would stare and ask how she hurt herself. They looked at me like I did it or why wasnt I keeping her safe. I would have to explain that it was a birthmark. They would then be fascinated and look closer like my explaination was permission to stare.
Just found this too:
Stork bite mark (Salmon patch, Telangiectatic naevus)
These are pink, flat, irregular shaped marks on the back of the neck and/or on the eyelids, forehead and occasionally on the top lip. The skin is not thickened, and you cannot feel any difference when you touch the mark.
Nearly half of all babies have these.
They are do not cause any problems and usually disappear by 12 months, or earlier.
The mark at the back of the neck may stay for longer, but it is usually covered by hair and out of sight.

Yes both or DS's were born with a stork mark the paed said "Angels Kiss" was another name for it.....the mark was across his eye lids and forehead and at the back of the neck....we were told it would fade which it did, by 1 yr it was gone in the 1st yr it would get worse when bubs was really upset crying, but it does go.......I was sick of explaining it to strangers, some people just have no idea......MM xx

My daughter had one sort of between her eyes and also on her nape. Not sure about the one on her nape but the one between her eyes was gone pretty quickly - by one I think? It was still visible for a few years if she became really upset and red in the face though. I haven't seen it for years now though (she is 1).
My DS also has one just on his nape.
Congratulations on your baby! I bet he is beautiful!
My baby has several. One on his forehead that goes down over a bit of his eyelid and his nose. hough the eyelid and nose bits are only noticable at times. He also has a big round one on the back of his head, but under his hair, and anther area of patchy ones on the side of his head above his ear, again covered by hair....looks a bit like bruising now its faded. And finally... a tiny one just above his nappy line on one side, pinhead size.
To me its just part of my beautiful boy. Part of what makes him unique. The ones on his forhead/eye etc, have faded a bit (he's 10mths) and somedays you can hardly see them, other days they seem quite prominent again.
I hadn't really ever thought too much about them until I had some photos done at christmas time. When I was going over options with the photographer he suggested that I go for sepia for a particular face shot. When I asked why he prefered that over the colour or B&W version he said .."if you look you will notice he has a birthmark, and with the sepia it is hidden" !!! I was quite shocked, and pointed out to him..."but that's what he looks like... it's part of what makes him, him" To his credit the photographer was embarrissed and said "Id never thought about it like that then added, you'd be surprised how many parents want us to airbrush such marks out" :(
I'm sorry people are making you feel uncomfortable about your boy's mark. It will fade and most likely disapear though. If it's still visable when he's older and it bothers him then they can be treated very sucessfully with laser nowadays.
My DS2 has two, one between his shoulder blades and one at the top of his neck (right on the hairline). Neither have really faded, you just cant see the one on his neck because of his hair.
My DS had a V-shaped one between his eyes and one on his eyebrow.
I just had to look up some pics to see when they faded... around 5 months I think.
As MM said it would get quite a lot darker when he cried a lot.
I had assumed that all babies had them as our midwife mentioned them at antenatal classes when she described what newborns looked like at birth.
I'm sorry people are being so rude about your beautiful boy. :hugs:

Oh yes my children have them on their necks. All 4 of them do. They are still there. I have a very good friend and her little girl had one across her forehead and it was very obvious, she is now 5 and there is NO sign of it.
Don't worry about other people they are probably just looking as a bit of curiosity.

Yes! Both my DS4 and DD18 months were born with a stork mark in the exact same spot! Apparently they are hereditary.
They both had 2 parallel red lines in between their eyebrows that faded over time and are now only visible when they are upset or crying.
People always used to ask me what they were and stuff which was annoying at first but they eventually fade away and aren't really a big deal at all. I thought they were unique and I was actually happy that they both had the same mark - it was like my "trade mark!"
